Left work with a serious craving for grilled pork. Googled and saw Birthday Bar and Grill. Decided to give it a try.
Firstly, their street is a nuisance with lots of exposed holes, drains and ditches in the ground. Parking (unless inside which was full), turning around and reversing is not for the faint of heart especially if you have a big SUV like mine.
They said they were out of grilled pork so fried pork was the only option. Getting the pork was quick. 60 cedis pork. Got 3 packs. One for myself, one for my husband and one for my nanny. Meat is few and far in between. Most of it is skin and it was low on taste. To make it worse, the pack they put it in is not even halfway full and they try to camouflage the poor quantity by topping with lots of green pepper and onions. So youre paying 60 cedis for mostly unhealthy pork skin, green pepper and onions.
The pork wasnt worth the drive there, the tight parking situation AND the 60 cedis price x 3. 180 cedis for this? Are the owners of this place serious? Could have done better with roadside Domedo. If this is what I was looking for, I could have found 10x better in East Legon. Anyway, since it was all skin and not much to eat, I gave mine to my dog when I got home....
Read moreThis was the VERY first Ghanian restaurant I came to when I landed in Accra from Malaysia. Final destination was Kumasi, had short layover in Accra, and was brought here my gracious host Stephen, who is also the proprieter.
Had fufu, palm nut soup with goat, chicken and fish! Enjoyed this meal throughly! An excellent introduction to Ghanian food. Like our local Malay and Indian food, this meal is commonly eaten with the fingers.
When I returned to Malaysia I stopped by again, had a meal of yam chips and fried meat.
A pitcher of water and bowl is provided to wash your hands at the table. This is similar to the set up at a Malay kampung style table.
Chill environment, it was Palm Sunday, and there were several families enjoying their lunch, service was friendly, professional and very efficient.
I certainly look forward to coming here in my next...
