Customer service was very poor. It’s been a very long time that I’ve experienced such a bad attitude from an employee in Ghana.. most are quite pleasant and respectful, and quickly apologize if the need arises. The manager at Jerk Soul however was extremely dismissive and passive aggressive. I called to place an order and clarify which items were vegan, and for whatever reason, she refused to simply say yes or no to what items were vegan, and would only issue a generic statement that they only have a “Meatless” menu, and not a vegan or vegetarian menu - that they wouldn’t want people to think their items are vegan, and basically one should make their decision with that in mind. When pressed further to speak with the chef, she then started reading off the ingredients on the menu, and stated that it doesn’t have cheese, meat, eggs in it, so it was okay. These are not the only items that constitute a meal being vegan, and truthfully, most Ghanaians don’t have a good understanding of what vegan truly means - if they can’t see the meat, it’s vegan to them. Anyone who has made the commitment to be vegan will tell you that we are quite particular about doing our best to only consume meatless/dairy free foods. It is not an acceptable response from a business in the restaurant industry to not want to offer the necessary assurance to accommodate more restrictive diets. I arrived in person to pick up my order and share my concerns with the way my order was received, she first walked away while I was trying to talk to her, then proceeded to engage in a full blown argument. There are certain conflict resolution skills that any manager or employer for that matter should have, and I was blown away by the disregard that I was shown. I didn’t feel that the owner showed better leadership either, as he basically backed up her position, then said that they are a jerk chicken restaurant, and don’t really cater to vegans. You don’t have to tell me twice - I will take my business elsewhere, and advise all vegans to do the same, as you are not valued here. As a Jamaican, I’ll give the food itself a 3, and 1 star deducted due to the...
Read moreWe were so disappointed overall with our experience at JerkSoul after going there today for a late lunch. We ordered the passion cup mocktail, fish tacos and the half size jerk chicken. The fish tacos were extremely underwhelming. The fish didn’t taste flavorful, and the menu advertised that it came with coleslaw, avocado, chipotle mayo and fresh toppings; so I was disappointed to only see and taste bland coleslaw on top of a small portion of fish inside of three average sized tacos. I definitely feel like it was nowhere worth the price of 150 cedis. The jerk chicken was a little better, but it was still so poorly seasoned and only had a mild jerk flavor. The chicken was mainly dry, and the rice and peas that came with it were also very dry and pretty much tasteless. Also it was supposed to come with a side of plaintains, but the waitress didn’t bother to tell us there were no plaintains. When I mentioned they weren’t on our plate, she said they had provided a salad instead (which was also bland). I told her the fish tacos also didn’t include what was advertised on the menu, and she just walked off as if she didn’t hear what I said. What we actually enjoyed was the passion cup mocktail— it had a nice taste, was refreshing, nicely chilled and reasonably priced. The outside view was great, and the restaurant decor was beautifully designed too; but considering the less than mediocre food, high prices, and poor customer service, I wouldn’t visit again or recommend this restaurant to friends/family. We were really excited to come to JerkSoul and support after seeing the restaurant advertised in a YouTube interview, but it fell sorely below my expectations. Ultimately we felt scammed out of 410 cedis, and the nerve to include a tipping suggestion on the bill was ludicrous. Hopefully the owner/staff will address the shortcomings because it has the potential to be a fantastic experience for customers if they actually put...
Read moreWhile the ambiance of the restaurant is very nice I did not have a good experience while here. First mistake happened when the waiter was not paying proper attention and placed an order for the loaded yam chips with cheese when we requested no cheese. Then as soon as she brought it out and saw there was cheese she was very hesitant to take the food back.
But i insisted that she take it back because we were clear when we ordered that we didn’t want cheese. After she took it back she said that because it was her mistake the chef wouldn’t remake it and that we should just eat it. By that point the yam chips was cold and dry.
Then I ordered the jerk chicken and the food was very mid. The chicken didn’t taste like jerk it tasted like regular grilled chicken.
Then after we paid and left very unsatisfied, the waitress chased us to tell us that they couldn’t accept the 200 ghc note because it looked damaged. Meanwhile that was a note straight from the bank. And insisted that we needed to give her a new note.
All in all I’ve been very excited to come and try out this place but have been very disappointed. The only reason I will come back is for their drinks. I didn’t order one but the ones I saw looked good and were coming...
