Aretousa Tavern — Restaurant in Athens

A friend recommended the restaurant and my husband and I decided to go after a day at the beach. The restaurant has a huge outdoor space with trees. It was my husband, me, and our cocker spaniel and maybe 3 or 4 more tables of people. After being seated and served, after ordering, and after more than an hour had passed, a waiter came to our table and told us that the owner forbids dogs on the premises due to the fact that their (outdoor) space is considered indoor - (which by the way had 3 cats roaming around and people smoking). Since we were in the middle of our meal we asked him if it would be ok for us to put our dog in her carrier. He replied no, the dog has to leave. We asked for the check, paid, and left. The waiters were polite and it's not their fault, but this type of behavior reminded me of Greece in the 1980''s. The owner saw us when we sat down, saw our dog multiple times and decided that after we had ordered he would tell us about his policy. Why? So he wouldn't lose a customer? If he had told us as soon as he saw us we wouldnt have had any issue with his policy and we would have left. This is extremely unprofessional. The best food I've eaten in Athens. I ate in a group so I've been able to taste several of their dishes: traditional salads, pumpkin, spinach pie, crab and other stuff I don't even know how to pronounce. But above all were the lamb ribs which are absoutely amazing and the best tzatziki I've ever tasted. They have plenty of room, three terraces, one of which is on the roof, from where you can get a marvelous view of the Acropolis, as you can see in the photo. Στο συγκεκριμένο κατάστημα ενώ κλείσαμε τραπέζι σε εξωτερικό χώρο, δεν μας ενημέρωσαν ότι δεν δέχονται ζώα συντροφιάς (κατοικίδια). Όταν φτάσαμε, παρέα εννέα άτομα, μας είπαν ότι "Είναι πολιτική του καταστήματος να μην δέχεται ζώα στο χώρο του καταστήματος". Μας πρότειναν βέβαια να μας στρώσουν τραπέζι εκτός του καταστήματος, μέσα στο παρακείμενο παρκάκι του λόφου του Αγίου Αιμιλιανού. Δεν γνωρίζω την νομιμότητα των παραπάνω πρακτικών, αλλά πρέπει να σημειώσω ότι τα ζώα συντροφιάς καλύπτονται από σχετική πρόσφατη νομοθεσία και αποτελούν μέλος της οικογένειας εφόσον υιοθετούνται και εντάσσονται στην οικογενειακή μερίδα του ανάδοχου. Επιπλέον διώκεται τυχόν αμέλεια στην υγεία και την συμπεριφορά του ζώου. Να σημειωθεί ότι στο εν λόγω κατάστημα υγειονομικού ενδιαφέροντος (ο Θεός να το κάνει) κυκλοφορούσε σημαντικός αριθμός αδέσποτων γατιών (σχετικά επιθετικών προς τα σκυλιά), αρκετά καλοταϊσμένες (λόγω μεγέθους), αγνώστου καταστάσεως υγείας (εφόσον δεν έφεραν σχετικά στοιχεία ιδιοκτησίας και εμβολιασμού). Εμείς συμμορφωθήκαμε με την "πολιτική του καταστήματος" και φύγαμε προς αναζήτηση άλλου, έστω και αν η ώρα ήταν ήδη 21:30. Λυπάμαι πραγματικά που ως κάτοικοι της περιοχής θελήσαμε να ενισχύσουμε καταστήματα της γειτονιάς μας κι εκείνοι τηρούν δικά τους "μέτρα και σταθμά" περί νομιμότητας, ενώ κρύβονται πίσω από ατάκες που άκουσαν ότι λέγονται από σοβαρούς όμως επαγγελματίες του χώρου τους. Αν και μας έδιωξαν μιλώντας μας ευγενικά, θεωρώ ότι η όλη αντιμετώπιση πρέπει να ελεγχθεί από αρμόδιες υπηρεσίες σχετικά με την υγιεινή των χώρων αλλά και των τηρουμένων διαδικασιών. Απαράδεκτη κατάσταση!!! Κρίμα πραγματικά γιατί το παρκάκι του λόφου αποτελεί όαση για την ευρύτερη περιοχή και κάποιοι "μέτριοι επαγγελματίες" μας στερούν την απόλαυση και μας...
