We visited Piperia after two weeks in Rhodes and Crete, hoping to get a nice meal for our last night in Greece. When we arrived, there was about 3 tables with people seated, and about 10-12 empty tables (including outdoors). When we asked about getting a seat, we were told “we’re fully booked for the night.” We were skeptical, as a restaurant with this many open tables would be hard pressed to be filled up in the next 3 hours before closing, but nonetheless, we moved on.

We ended up going to eat at a nearby restaurant (MACAO ΨΑΡΟΜΕΖΕΔΕΣ SEAFOOD) with fantastic service and food. The waiters at Macao were so friendly and went above and beyond to make it an enjoyable experience for us. We left stuffed after eating a massive meal for 50 euros.

Going back to Piperia, we walked by it on our way back to our hotel. I’ve attached a video of the scene of the “fully booked” restaurant. Multiple tables available, not even 20% full.

I encourage the restaurant and its staff to do a better job at accommodating tourists. Many of us come from larger cities and it’s easy to tell when we’re being lied too. I hope some better training is put in place to teach staff about respect for others and the value of accommodating non-Greeks/Tourists.

No complaints about my dinner at Macao Seafood though - I left...

Disgusting establishment.

We arrived at 8:15 pm, the restaurant had about 4 tables seated and there was about 15 empty. When requesting a table, we were told that they were “fully booked for the night”.

We walked past again around 10:30pm (after having an amazing dinner at MACAO ΨΑΡΟΜΕΖΕΔΕΣ SEAFOOD) and I’ve attached a photo of the restaurant at this time, nearly empty, so many empty tables still like when we arrived 2 hour prior.

Not sure why we were turned away aside from the fact that we are not Greek. Overall, terrible experience and I would advise anyone visiting Athens to stay far far away from this racist establishment.

A note to the restaurant, I would advise you don’t treat tourists like they’re idiots in the future. This was, by far, my worst experience I’ve had in Greece in the last 2 weeks. The only one you have hurt now is yourself by losing out...

A cold day in Athens our road led us to piperia by luck, we got inside and we felt immediately the warm air and the nice smells from the kithcen. The waitress gave as the menu and looked really satisfied, we orderd serveral dishes to taste them, after a short they started coming and we were really impressed! The quality of food was obviously very well and the taste much better, in the end we also orderd a dessert and it was delicious too! I reccomend piperia...

We have been visiting Piperia for over ten years and the food, service, and quality are consistent. You should absolutely try the ceviche (which is generally rare in Greece) and the taramosalata (fish roe spread). Even the French fries are better than in most places.
