Nostos Chios — Restaurant in Chios Municipality

Really wanted to come here after seeing so many positive reviews. During the holiday weekend, on Google it showed that the restaurant was closed, so my group ate somewhere else nearby first.

Even though we had already eaten, we made an extra stop after dinner to get some drinks and try their grilled octopus.

I was pretty excited but found that the owner's attitude and service were both a bit lackluster. He seemed annoyed that we didn't order more, and we could see he was noticeably more enthusiastic with larger parties who had a larger bill. When we tried to ask him questions about the menu, he rolled his eyes and gave curt, borderline rude responses. The rest of the service was also cold and uninspired.

The grilled octopus was good, but nothing that blew me away.

Nostos is one of the best restaurants we have been in Chios! We arrived a bit early for the island, around 12:30 while a lot of places were just opening. However, they said it was okay for us to eat, even though probably their kitchen was just opening. We ordered lakerda, burger and grilled chicken with Nostos salad. We wanted to order Mastello but the owner told us there was already Mastello inside the salad to save us repeat ourselves, super thoughtful! The food was very delicious, all of us enjoyed what we ordered, and the prices were quite normal. For me the best part was, when the owner brought our dog water in a bowl without even asking! We've eaten in all the good & familiar restaurant in Chios but Nostos is the best of Chios. If you are finishing your Chios vacation without eating in Nostos, you would never completing the Chios, be sure that you would be missing something! We ordered Fava (the best ever), grilled Octopus (we say like a LOKUM 😊, means so soft & tasty), fried Barbun fish (just perfect), grilled Helloumi (very good!), boiled green - chorta (very fresh), shrimp in butter (was incredibly tasty and fresh) and Paella (not with rice but still taste good) and all those are eaten by two of us ☺️ we didn't even want to spent one little piece as left!
