Karbouniárēs — Restaurant in Drama Municipality

This is a Greek taverna cosplaying as fine dining. Both styles are great when done right. Yet the fusion of these two dissonant styles is often unsuccessful.

The main reason one goes to a restaurant is not the ambiance, or music, or even service; it is Food. It is just impossible to compensate for low average quality food with great service or fancy decorations. Those factors are nice but not necessary conditions for a great dinner experience.

The food was average Greek taverna style. It was fairly priced for what it is. There were three notable exceptions that made me cross some stars off.

We ordered two of the same sausages. Yet one tasted good and another was foul. I've seen "deconstructed" Dakos before and it is a BAD thing. The structure is what makes dakos. Call it dakos-like thing for people with no teeth or something. It is customary, and generally expected for Greek taverns to offer free desert at the end. Especially in Macedonia! One gets complimentary desert in Greece even in many white tablecloth restaurants. It is not ok to charge for it. I don't know if it's just cosplaying the "European" restaurants, but you fool no one.

The wine was marked up x2 which is a nice thing. Although, the glasses were comically large.

The best part of this restaurant is the people. Attentive, polite, and quick....

Επισκεφτήκαμε τον χώρο του Καρβουνιάρη για ένα διαφορετικό Δείπνο με την κοπέλα μου. Έχοντας γνώση για τα πιάτα περίμενα κάτι παρά πολύ καλό για την πόλη της Δράμας. Όπως μπήκαμε στον χώρο ήταν πεντακάθαρος και με πολύ όμορφη διακόσμηση. Ο πρώτος κύριος μας εξυπηρέτησε άψογα ως προς το στήσιμο και την ένδειξη στο που να καθίσουμε. Μικρό μενού με πολύ κρέας . Δεν ήθελα να πιστέψω ότι ο σερβιτόρος δεν με ρώτησε καν τι ψήσιμο να έχει το κρέας μου. Η παραγγελία μας ήταν: Σαλάτα καρβουνιάρης 6/10 Μπιφτέκι Μοσχαρίσιο 8/10 Μπιφτέκι κοτόπουλο 10/10 T Bone 4/10 Θα αρχίσω με την Σαλάτα, παίρνω συσκευασία από Α-Β με λίγο βαλσαμικο μέλι μουστάρδα βάζω και λίγη τορτίγια τηγανιτή 7€ . Νόστιμη αλλά οχι .. περίμενα κάτι πολύ καλύτερο. Μοσχαρίσιο μπιφτέκι με χρήση μπόλικο λεμόνι για γεύση. Καλό. Μπιφτέκι κοτόπουλο .. θα το πρότεινα για να επισκεφτείτε τον Καρβουνιάρη πολύ νόστιμο μαλακό και θα ξανά πω γευστικότατο. T Bone .. Ανέφερα στον σερβιτόρο μιας που δεν με ρώτησε ότι θέλω να είναι Medium Rare όχι medium όχι Well. Δίστιχος το κρέας ήρθε χλιαρό δεν προλάβαμε να φάμε 2 Μπούκερ και κρύωσε .. καθόλου μπαχαρικά ε αποτέλεσμα να βάζουμε πιπέρι και αλάτι όλη την ώρα για γεύση. Θέλει πολύ βελτίωση η κουζίνα για να πετύχει κάτι καλό προς άριστο για τα δεδομένα που πλασάρετε το μαγαζί. Σίγουρα θα προσθέσω ότι οι κύριοι που μας εξυπηρέτησαν ήταν ευγενέστατοι ειδικά ο κύριος από το μπαρ που δεν ήταν σερβιτόρος αλλά μάνατζερ ή αφεντικό. Θα ήθελα να ξανά επισκεφτώ το κατάστημα και ελπίζω να γίνουν κάποιες βασικές αλλαγές...

Foods were good. but they charged us 1.50 euro for 7 slice of bread. They served it first, and we thought it was what they give as a appetizer for free. Then we learned it was not free. This is a cheap trick to take more money from customers. I was really glad for happy service and tasty cooks. But now I am unfriendly due to what just happened. I don’t think they are doing bad business but they should have let their customers know they charge...
