This restaurant is an absolute must-visit in Ioannina! We’ve been traveling through Greece for three weeks already, trying many different tavernas and restaurants, but this place stands out above them all — so much so that we came back the very next day.
The food is simply outstanding — full of authentic flavors, generous portions, and beautifully cooked meat dishes (the lamb chops are unforgettable, and the chocolate soufflé is the perfect finale). On top of that, the service is flawless: every member of the team is professional, warm, and welcoming. Special thanks to our waiter Adonis for making both of our visits memorable.
Another big plus: the staff speaks perfectly fluent English, which makes everything smooth and easy.
But what makes this restaurant truly unique is its location. Perched high on the hills overlooking Ioannina and the lake, the view is absolutely breathtaking — one of those rare places that is worth visiting even if you’re not hungry, just to enjoy the panorama. At sunset, the scenery becomes magical, and after dark the lights of Ioannina shimmering below create an unforgettable backdrop.
It’s also very pet-friendly, which was a big plus for us traveling with our dog — she felt as welcome as we did. Families will appreciate the large car park and the children’s playground, making it convenient for everyone.

Read moreWe enjoyed eating at Koukouvagia, especially due to the friendly staff and the wonderful view of Ioannina, the great lake and Nisos of Ioannina. People were willing to help, even with the difficulties of the rainy weather, and we appreciated that. The food was OK, but I think a little bit expensive for the propositions and the quality of it. The site as said is a must though due to the astonishing view, you may also visit just for coffee and disert. Also if you have kids, the place is very much...
Read moreVisited here for a drink to kill time before a restaurant booking and wow, what a view! I only had a beer so can't really comment on the coffee/other drinks or food (although they did serve dinner cups and sliced sausage to accompany the beer, that was very nice) but it's all about the view here. Just a wonderful view of Ioannina itself as well as the lake and Island. I had a Mamos draught but it was served in an Alfa glass, hence the Alfa glass in the photo. Service was very...
