Our experience at Kanenas Taverna was nothing short of exceptional! During our stay in Kefalonia, we had the pleasure of sailing to Ithaca and the taverna was recommended to us by the sailing company, for lunch. The food was so incredible that we returned for a second visit, and both experiences were among the culinary highlights of our entire 3-week stay in the area.
The host/owner greeted us with genuine warmth, making us feel right at home. The dishes were simply delicious, bursting with authentic flavors that showcased the best of Greek cuisine. On our second visit, we were treated to a fresh catch of the day – a small dentex, expertly prepared and caught by the owner’s father. It was, without a doubt, one of the best fish dishes we've ever had.
The taverna’s garden is a true oasis, offering a cool and breezy retreat on even the hottest summer days. It's beautifully maintained, adding to the overall charm and tranquility of the place.
If you're visiting Ithaca, Kanenas Taverna is an absolute must. The combination of amazing food, friendly service, and a delightful atmosphere make it a standout experience. We can't...
Read moreThe place is nice and the food is good, but you have to make a reservation ahead to actually enjoy yourself. The restaurant is separated into two areas, the one in the front is for those who reserved a place, and the patio in the back is for those who came without one. The food is indeed great, in both of the areas, but in the non-reservation area the staff is rushed, not as bothered, there aren't place mats for the plates as there are in the front, same goes for tissues and cutlery. However, they compensate in the back with a larger and cozier eating space rather than in the front, which is busier, smaller, has colder lights and is right next to the street, where there are cars and there's noise. The redeemable qualities are the great food, the fact that the place is really clean and a very...
Read moreThis was an ok experience. The appetizers we ordered were lackluster in flavor. Also the gigante beans came out cold in some parts, which was strange and makes me question if they're using a microwave to reheat food.
The owner seems to push the fried pita on every table, but I found it average and not worth the price. I would skip this.
We ordered the moussaka, the goat and a dessert as well. I would rate the appetizers, moussaka and dessert as average. But their goat is really really good. Probably top 3 that I've ever had and we've traveled the Greek islands extensively. It was very tender.
Maybe skip all the appetizers (especially the fried pita bread) and just order the goat. Service was polite but they are definitely short staffed for dinner so be prepared to wait...
