My wife and I wanted to book a place in Kea as a pre-wedding restaurant/venue so that our friends and family can meet, eat good and enjoy themselves. Around 60 people.
Amongst all of our wedding decisions, Paparounas was the easiest one to make. Antonis was professional, approachable, polite, able to create multiple combinations on the menu so that we can agree on taste and money.
He spent the time and he was always available for questions and he booked the whole restaurant for us. All communication was done online and he offered a food tasting 2 weeks before the day so that he can have time to prep everything.
Now, to the good part… The food! Oh Lord! Himself and the kitchen crew ( which I cant congratulate enough on their speed, quality and efficiency) knew what they were doing! Each plate was unique, a small twist to an all typical dish was creating a huge difference on the palate. The amount of food on the chosen menu was more than enough and it was something that all guests were extremely happy with! We made the choice to go with fish dishes. A few great examples: Seafood pasta plate Pestrofa kapnisti Octopus Baked calamari! Paparounas salad And the list keeps going!
The only thing both my wife and I regret is that we couldn’t eat more! Also the name of Paparounas( or poppy in English) has a very interesting story of how Antonis came up with it! Ask!
This is not your typical restaurant in Kea and as a matter a fact in most greek islands. We have visited more than 12 islands in Greece and its rare to have experienced this type of cuisine for a reasonable price. We will try to make a habit of it to be coming every summer! All my thanks to Antonis...
Read moreIf you're finding yourself in Kea and you're wondering what would be the best place to eat, then you MUST come to Paparounas. Being on the island and not eat at this place can be considered a tragic loss. I apologize for the cheesiness, but once you tried the food, you'll understand why I say this.
So, to the point, the food here is nothing less than delicious! The portions on all dishes are generous and the prices are affordable, you'll get amazing taste and you won't go broke for it. In fact, you'll find yourself very happy to pay for the meal.
The environment is cozy and offers a lovely view of Ioulida, while having a tasty cup of their local wine. Their service which is the other highlight other than food is excellent.
Antonis, the chef is a charismatic and unique individual. He'll make you feel right at home, specially with his ability to speak several languages and will be more than happy to tour you through the menu. The man knows his island and can tip you which other areas you can visit.
The food at Paparounas reflects Antoni's personality, his creativity and his ambition. I can assure you, that you will not regret coming here and you will leave with a smile...
Read moreHas such a wonderful dining experience here. Adonis and his crew are so kind, hospitable, friendly and efficient. The food was fantastic and came in massive portions (I was on my own, so if you're getting the greek salad for instance, get a half-portion… although the staff will probably recommend this to you).
The trout was flippin fantastic! Best fish I've had in a minute. Please please treat yourself to the zucchini balls. Out of this world! The side of fries/chips is massive as well! Try not to fill up on bread before things come out and likely plan on getting a to-go bag.
I'll be coming back here whenever I am in Kea for sure. Lots of interesting conversation with Adonis as well if you're lucky enough to be there when it's not too busy.
Also, in case this is useful info for you… I find I was harangued much less here than at some of the other nearby tavernas by the local cats who are so good at begging… it's just that its a smaller, more tucked away spot. Perhaps I am lucky, but when I left, I saw one just rubbing up on a dude's leg as he was having dinner… so if that's any more...
