That's probably the worse dining experience we've had in Greece. Normally Greek food is superb and famous for its freshness. This was the first time in Greece we were served food that was unfresh. Worse, it was unfresh seafood. Actually, we could have suspected when like 2/3 of the menu was unavailable. Why bother show menu to customers when most of it is unavailable? Than, the dishes came in a couple of minutes, second warning sign. How can you make all the dishes in 2-3 minutes, right? And indeed, squids were gummy and tasted unfresh, like they were defrosted. Even the boiled vegetables were unfresh. Tuna salad was simply tuna from can with some onion and thousand island sauce on top. When we complained and ask for the the bill, the waiter promised his seafood is fresh. He took off 20 euro from the bill and showed me drawers of fresh seafood. I'm sure they have some fresh seafood, we simply didn't get it. Seems like this restaurant is in survival mode or suicide mode, either one. It definitely reduced our faith in Greek dining. Definitely not going to trust just any restaurant anymore after...
Read moreAfter spending time in Athens, and visiting the villages where my in-laws grew up on Evia with my wife, our children and my in-laws - Koutelou Tavern was by far the best restaurant we ate at. My wife used to come here with her grandfather when she was a young girl, so we had to visit as one of our last meals on Evia. I was absolutely blown away by the best Calamari I’ve had anywhere else in our travels across the globe. You could tell that they used the freshest and best damn ingredients in the Greek and Beet salad, and fresh baked bread to soak up anything the was left from our shrimp and cod entrees.
The staff was extremely accommodating and patient as we worked through the menu to account for some food allergies and the chef custom making food at the request of our 8-year old twins.
This place is a gem, that I wish existed back in the states. Sitting outside with our family, talking to locals and enjoying the scenery is hard to beat. One thing is for sure, it’s the most tender, high-quality Calamari you will ever find.
I can only hope to make it back, to enjoy another...
Read moreWe really had a mixed experience at this restaurant. We were looking for a place to have lunch and we got this place recommended by locals. With three young kids, we got well received and fast, a guy took our order, without giving us a menu (and to our dismay we didn't ask for it). Instead, my Greek wife talked directly to the guy who suggested different standard dishes, and some cod fish... Everything came fast, the view was amazing, the food was good, but then came the bill! Sadly, the guy "forgot" to tell us that the fish was more than 30€ (about 45€/kilo, more than triple the price of everything else ordered). We were so upset and felt that we have been played. Maybe it was partly our fault to not have asked the menu... Sadly, the only thing that we will remember about this place is...
