Without the smallest doubt - Taverna Stavrakakis is our biggest discovery of this summer! What a food! What a food!!! 🥹😍 Such a pity our hotel owner told us about this gem only 3 nights before our holiday was over, I'm sure we'd be here every night for a dinner. The whole family is the one to be praised and remembered forever, mama Penelope and her husband and sons made this place the best restaurant not only in the area, but for us on the whole Crete (and we've seen almost every corner of it returning here for 3 times, for now). The dishes you can try here are pure traditional gold, made with love, old fashioned recepies, no Instagram trends, no faking... real, real food like our grannies used to prepare! The ingredients are stunning, tastes just keep on running through your body and making it feel happy... goat in wine sauce, lamb chops, pasta, stuffed zucchini flowers, sausages, homemade bread, cheese pie with honey... and STAKA! 😍 The best thing we've ever tried! Oh, and the lemon cake as a complimentary desert, if a 5x5cm piece of sweet can be put in a wedding ring instead of diamond, I'd choose Penelope's lemon cake! 😍 Thank you for treating us like a part of your family and like we know eachother for decades, it's been an unforgettable experience spending time with your beautiful family. ❤️ Wizard Penelope, thanks for the recipe, I'm sure I won't be as good but I'll try to touch that level and can't wait to send the results. Big hug and love for Stavrakakis family, see you next year!...

My family comes from Crete and enjoying the food of the "O Kroustas" tavern brought back memories of wonderful flavours from the past. I particularly recommend all different versions of local lamb or goat offered: Vrasto (boiled), Tsigariasto (braised) and grilled on the charcoal fire. Pair these with Lazania (also known locally as Skioufichta): handmade fresh pasta, boiled in lamb broth and topped with local Mizithra cheese. All prices very reasonable for the quality offered. For me the "O Kroustas" tavern is a destination of it's own. Pair it with a walk in the old part of the Kroustas village (to the left side of the main road as you go up the mountain) and you have an amazing immersion experience in authentic...
Read moreIf you ask anyone on Crete where to eat, they will undoubtedly recommend Taverna Stavrakakis O Kroustas for its authentic Cretan cuisine. And rightly so! Anyone looking to experience the true flavors of Crete will fall in love with this place. We visited as a group and ordered almost everything on the menu. Every dish was incredibly delicious. The chef himself even came to our table to ensure everything was to our satisfaction. No matter where you are on the island, the trip to Kroustas is worth it. Plus, the prices are genuinely local. A perfect...
