I am extremely disappointed by the terrible service.

My husband and I were excited and told that this venue is great, but we did not feel welcome.

We waited patiently for a table. Once one was free, we sat down with the previous customers’ dirty plates. The waitress didn’t clear them for 10 minutes.

When she came to clear the table she wiped it and left us without menus.

Then she placed a menu in front of us, said “here’s the menu” and disappeared again. She didn’t offer us water or anything. We waited patiently for 15 minutes with nothing.

We were hoping to be greeted with warmth, but there was no filotimo so we left.

Up in the remote hillside village of Tholaria, sits this unassuming little place, the only thing giving it away that it serves food is a little set of tables outside the church grounds. The menu is given verbally which gives me comfort that it’s going to be a few dishes done well, a master of trades. This was the tastiest pork souvlaki I have had, extremely tender and the fried potatoes were delicious (which is no mean feat given the amount of fried potatoes consumed). Kali Kardia is a lovely family run tavern at the heart of Tholaria. Worth the trip be it for coffee, drinks, a light or a full meal. They also sell things to go, in case you’re in the market for take away.

You can’t go wrong with their souvlaki, greek salad or potatoes. They have a few choices but they’re all spot on.

Just ask and the brother & sister duo will be sure to assist you.
