Beautiful restaurant. It's got the Crete mountain atmosphere going. Someone has put a lot of love into this place. When I went in it was empty except for the family hanging out in front. The red wine they brought was brown, very off and very vinegary. Not a hint of red. Just brown. They probably opened it months ago but why would you try to offer that to a guest? Don't serve people brown wine. Most people who order wine aren't stupid, don't do this. I brought it up to them after thinking about it and they're like "it's Cretian wine! What's wrong?" No man, I've had plenty of Cretian wine and it's not brown vinegar. He ended up giving me a tiny bottle of Greek wine they had on the counter instead but they were offended. I should have left at that point but I'd already ordered. Dang it. Appetizer was good but it was tiny. Vibes from the family were not friendly at this point... The lamb was like leather. It had no seasoning other than salt, just tough overcooked grey meat. I ate some of it. I shouldn't have. Again I've had this dish elsewhere it's usually simple but they served me some old meat. I had chosen poorly. They dropped off a custard and grapes for free at the end. Nice enough but every other place usually it's raki. They weren't feeling any philoxenia that night. I got up, paid the €28 and as I left the matriarch just stared at me from her chair. I was glad to get out of there....
Worst meal I had on Crete, I've been here for a month. Looks like it can be good during the day when the old man is grilling? I think maybe he's the soul of the place. He wasn't there when I was in on a...
Read moreThe quality of the meat was very good but it was not cooked correctly , it was hard to chew with ease. Pasta was flavorless except the cheese on top which was perfect. All the rest was really nothing special that I gladly ate but not terrible. In any case was not worth the amount of money we paid because there was not quantity either quality on our table. Note please that I have never paid more for food in crete !!! anywhere !!! Neither at chania rethymno or heraklion. The worst part was the service which almost ruin our day with a total lack of respect in anyway possible from the way they gave us food the dirty baby seat which we asked repeatedly and the money ethics of the place. Of course I wouldn't...
Read moreWow... Where do I start... I had the lamb, Greek salad, white wine, raki, and a dessert pudding.. let's start with the lamb. It was sooo delicious. Each bit would send you to heaven. Wood fire roasted. Each bit was delicious. The salad was amazing and made me feel like I really was in Greece. The wine felt very local and I slowly sipped to the very end. The raki shot helped me digest the meal. Now the service was sooooo welcoming it made me feel like I was a part of their family.... The atmosphere made the experience of anogia so real I felt soooo comfortable... I truly recommend anyone who stops in this village to try it.... Such a beautiful family run...
