Taverna "Progoulis" — Restaurant in Municipality of Apokoronas

Although the food was very good, and the setting very beautiful, the service was pretty awful. From the moment we arrived and asked for a table it was as if we were inconveniencing the waiter. We then waited ages for menus and then again for the order to be taken. When food arrived it came in two batches, so my husband and daughter ate theirs while my son and I waited. We ate ours long after they had finished. The bill then took another age to arrive. We discovered that this was because the waiter was sitting in the bar enjoying his own meal with a friend! I spoke to the lady cooking when I went in to pay (to be honest we could have left in the time it took and nobody would have noticed!) She and a young lad were working incredibly hard and she was most apologetic as well as shocked that her waiter was not doing his job. I have given two stars instead of one because of the scenery which was really nice (we were having launch under forest trees, next to a river with beautiful bridges and geese swimming around). Food was average or bad. Lamb chops which should had been the best dish were full of fat. Worst thing was the flies which were literally swarming and I had to be eating with one hand as I continuously had to swing the other over the plates in order to protect them (probably not something that the restaurant could affect but this has been a major part of the experience). We went for dinner yesterday and the food was amazing and seemed fresh. We got “paidakia”, snails, and saganaki, and a “xoriatiki” salad which were all very good - I particularly liked the snails.  Appetizers came at the same time as the main course, which I have found to be a thing of Greece generally. The service was very fast and the waiters were extremely polite and we had no problem communicating with them. The view of the creek was beautiful, we sat downstairs to be closer to it, and there were a lot of animals (ducks and cats, which I personally loved but if you ignore them they will leave you alone).
