We went to Ioannis Taverna on our first night in Crete as it was the closest eating place to the villa we were staying in and it had been a long day of travelling. It is quite a simple and rustic place but the service and food were good and there was a lovely view out over the bay. They even gave us free raki and a small dessert at the end of the meal, which we discovered was typical if restaurants in the area. On this night we had eaten at 7pm (early by Greek standards) and only two other tables were occupied. Whilst there we saw a sign for live music on the Sunday so we booked to go back. Booking is recommended if going on Sunday evening as it gets very full. We really enjoyed the live music. There were two musicians performing together, one on keyboards, the other on bazouki and both sang. People got up to dance between the tables at times, which was great fun! There was also a lovely sunset...

It was our first night in Crete. Beautiful spot in peaceful village and the promise of some R&B music. Very warm greeting on arrival, nothing too much trouble. Menu looked good and very reasonably priced and on ordering was promised cooking your mama would do you and lots of. Sadly this was no other delivered upon. Portions were on the smaller side and sadly much of the meat was overcooked. I suspect due to the fact they had a large British ex pat gathering to support an English band and so food volumes were high. The local draught beer was excellent but wine was clearly watered down. As for the band. Oh my God. I work for a music organisation and I can only say one thing. They were tone deaf. So we finished our drinks and headed back to our quiet villa. Not the authentic Greek experience I was hoping for but that said take the back D away and large group of ex pats and I am sure it...

We had made a booking however, the management seemed unaware of it. Not a great start ! My partner had the mousakka which he said was fabulous. I had the spaghetti bolognaise which had no sauce and was very dry . I understand the team were setting up for a Greek evening however, this should not distract them from delivering a good customer experience. Also, be aware flies every where. Had our plates been taken away this may not have been such an annoying issue. Overall, it would have been a better experience if the Staff paid attention to existing Customers, rather then focusing completely on the...

This restaurant is simply perfection! The owners are welcoming and you feel like home! The food is by far the best food I have had in all of Greece! Local products, fresh home grown and made with love! I compared it to my mom’s cooking and she’d kill me if she found out that I said some dishes are better than hers!! Authentic Greek food made with love from a beautiful family! ♥️ Thank you for making Kriti so special for us. With Love, your Greek and Mohawk friends!

Traditional taverna with amazing views of sunset and Souda bay. Very good value. All home made greek food. Need to order lots of starters and lamb chops are amazing. Fresh fish grilled on bbq. Has new modern toilet block which is a massive improvement Highly suggest Sunday greek night if you want some local flavour (need to book a table)
