ΜΕΛΤΕΜΑΚΙ RESTAURANT AND BEACH BAR — Restaurant in Municipality of Chania

We stumbled upon this place while driving from Chania to our rental place near Kalyviani. Our family of four (two young boys) were hungry and looking for a quick swim before the hour-long drive and ΜΕΛΤΕΜΑΚΙ Restaurant and Beach Bar checked both boxes! Laid-back atmosphere yet our server was super friendly and attentive, and this seemed to be a locals spot for swimming and a relaxing bite. Parking can be a bit tight in the car park but we just put the tiny rental along the road, and the kids swam in the bay until the food arrived. Speaking of the food, it was delicious and a great price, and my all time favorite aspect for this bar was the beer! Something about the ice-cold Cretan beer called Charma, a draft beer served in a chilled mug, just tasted so good. It could have been a number of factors influencing our reaction to this place (delayed flight, hungry kids, unacclimatized to the hot weather…) but this little bar/restaurant was a great intro to our family vacation in Crete! We had to quickly stop to attend to the baby and this place happened to be closest. But it was perfect for what we needed! They had a changing table, which is not common around here, and with everything you needed for a change - all for free. We had drinks and a light lunch which was very nice and tasty; tarama, tsatziki, dakos and Caesar salad. Lovely restaurant, very affordable which I was surprised as I was expecting overpriced menu as it was the only restaurant by the beach. Everything we got was delicious, tzatziki was perfectly balanced and dakos were stunning. Their fresh orange juice was probably the best juice I had in Crete. It didn't have fruit bits and tasted like it was made from very high quality oranges. The coffee was very good as well, perfect to cool you down during high temperatures.
