Akrogiali Fish Tavern — Restaurant in Municipality of East Mani

The setting for this restaurant is exceptional with a beautiful view of Kotronas Beach in Mani and nice cool tables under the mulberries. We went to this restaurant for lunch on Thursday July 17, 2025 after swimming at the beach and were excited for a nice meal. We had to ask the waiter four times for a menu and he was extremely rude in return. We went across the street and spoke to the owner and asked to see the fresh fish options for the day. We picked our fish and could easily tell that it was very fresh. However, when the meal was brought to the table, the fish smelled so foul that we could not even finish eating our salad much less the fish. It was obvious to us that we had been shown a fresh fish and then brought something completely different. Food was fresh and delicious (really recommend their whole baked fish). We loved it so much that we drove there for 35 mins on serpentine roads from our hotel twice in one week despite there being lots of tavernas much closer. I really enjoyed the setting (a luscious green tree canopy and views of the Laguna and a nice sandy beach. You can also go for a stroll around after dinner. It’s always full of friendly locals, a lovely attentive service too and crucially a good value for money. It’s good for people watching too as it’s high up above a beach and a pier. Apart from the sea view, which you can find elsewhere, too, I’m afraid there’s nothing good about this tavern. The service was excruciatingly slow, the prices over the roof, and the food quality just low. We made the mistake to believe the waiter and ordered “fresh” octopus, which we didn’t eat as it was fairly chewy and definitely NOT “fresh”. Same goes for the rubbery squid.
