This place is a must stop if you are in the area. The tavern is a family operation and most if not all of the things the serve are produced by them.
First of all a big plus of the place is that it has a small fenced playground. Parents with small kids will especially enjoy this.
Service was superb and with a smile (thnx Rena) and the food was truly sublime! We were 3 adults and a kid and we took 3 main dishes a salad and a side dish. By the end we were so full we had to ask for a box to take what we couldn't eat with us.
The portions are quite generous and the fries that accompany the meat remind m of the fries my grandma used to make.
Unfortunately we dived into our plates and didn't had time to take photos of all the dishes. I recommend the lamp liver stew with onions and red sauce. If you like liver you are going to love this dish.
We also took lamp "tsigariasto" which is a traditional way to cook it and it was amazing. The meat was full of juices and soft as butter with a lemony taste.
The salad was huge and the feta was produced by them. The feta deserves a special mention as it is fresh and you can tell it's something you can not find in your supermarket. In the salad you will also find "stamnagkathi" which is a local greenery.
The bread was home made with sesame and linseed, you won't be able to stop eating it.
The also brought us a fine selection of cheese they produce and sell. I will definitely buy some of the smoked one .
Finally when we were done and full, Rena brought us home made ice scream, raki and water melon.
My only regret is that I didn't try lamp "antikristo" (another traditional way to roast lamp) but I'm definitely going to visit again during a Sunday...
Read moreWe stopped for lunch here, having driven past it on the way to the Minoan Palace of Faistos. What a treat. The host was lovely, settling us down in the coolest tables. Bread and water flowed. We ordered a number of appetisers, and 3 mains between the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids). All were delicious, and the mains particularly huge - we couldn’t finish it all between us. Of particular note was the Aubergine Imam. The only way to describe it was like a tagine, without the meat or spices. Pure heaven in a pot. As expected, all the grilled meats were ace. The special of the day was a slow cooked lamb & tomato dish. It was incredibly tasty, and just fell off the bone (stews always taste better when cooked on the bone). Definitely worth a stop. Or...
Read moreWe were on Crete for the third time and beforehand I must say that the local cuisine is generally incredibly delicious, fresh and authentic.
However, what we were able to experience culinary at the Lamb House was simply breathtaking. The selection of appetizers was large and very diverse. In addition to classics - tzatziki, saganaki and co. - there were also more unusual such as pickled root vegetables or fries with Gruyère cheese. Vegetarians will definitely find what they are looking for here.
The restaurant's specialties also include incredibly delicious grilled meat dishes, which taste really excellent. The whole thing is rounded off by homemade ice cream for dessert and friendly service.
Absolute recommendation for the next...
