Taverna Afrathias — Restaurant in Municipality of Festos

We stayed 5 minutes away from a very natural beach and as we walked there the first time we saw a litte taverna next to it. The owner of the taverna speaks english and is one of the friendliest people I got to know. As we live near by we went there a couple of times and the food was always good and as fresh as can be. Because it‘s a simple and traditional taverna they mostly serve grilled meat and fish, but the owner always tried to find vegetarian alternatives for us. This season we chose Afratias Beach to share the quiet and serenity with close friends visiting Crete on vacation. Eleni's tavern was a central point of our amazing four-days on the Gulf of Mesara. To put is bluntly, there's no better beachside taverna on Crete where food and friendliness are concerned.

Choose anything on the menu, but our group went crazy for the fried sardines and the sea brim.

abbiamo pranzato una domenica di fine giugno in questa semplicissima taverna sulla spiaggia di afrathias da cui prende il nome (visto solo sul menù perché l'edificio non ha nessuna insegna), tra kalamaki e kokkinos pyrgos, tutto a base di pesce fresco...sardine, boghe (gopa in greco) e insalata greca, con mezzo litro di vino bianco...pesce ottimo, fresco e fritto a dovere, molto appetitoso...prezzi però non certo modici come dicevano molti precedenti recensori, viste anche le quantità, giuste ma non certo abbondanti...12€ le sardine, altrettanto le boghe, 8€ l'insalata greca, 6€ il mezzo litro di gino bianco sfuso in caraffa...con pane e bottiglia d'acqua spesa totale di 40€ come ci può anche stare visto la bontà del pesce, anche no visto il locale e il servizio, familiare e cortese ma molto molto semplice...offerta anguria, ma senza fiaschetta di raki che abbiamo visto invece portare agli altri tavoli dei commensali locali...cosa che ci ha lasciato ulteriormente un po' perplessi...insomma buon pranzo ma con qualche ombra...
