Few days ago we have evacuated from our house in Agia Fotia due to the wildfires in the valley, our garden was partly burned but afterwards the house was saved by brave Cretan firemen what we realized 2 days later. On the evacuation day, stressed about the ongoing catastrophe we drove to Ierapetra to plan what to do next. Stopped at Clio to rest and find a place to sleep online. been there before and enjoyed food a lot. Unfortunately the lady from the staff said we cannot enter with a small dachshund, the only option was to tie the dog to a bike rack outside, next to cars. I understand we cannot enter the interior part of the restaurant and respect that. But she was very strict about the garden part as well. It was an extreme time and people around were frightened. Such a suggestion from the staff made us go away and find another place to rest and think. If you read this, please think about your behaviour. Treating people and their small pets like this (and in such circumstances) is coming to an end, maybe you don’t see...
Read moreVery unwelcoming. No smile, no friendliness. I felt like back in Germany. Was asked to remove our cat that was on a short leash outside the table area not disturbing anyone in an almost entirely empty place. I asked why. She claimed many people have allergies. Then I saw the 2 people next table smoking. I am allergic but didn't say anything. My wife left with our cat and didn't come back to eat. I had regrettably some small food but looking into the face of the owner lady was really not a pleasure. Just extremely unwelcoming. No need this in Greece. I do not come to Greece to meet the same bad attitude, that I have every day in Germany or Switzerland. If you need to enforce your principles, do not be surprised to have no customers. By the way the menu was only in English and German. Not even in Greek. Strange. Keep...
Read moreKlio Tavern was a real find during our trip. Its beachside location is stunning, and the food was home-style and delicious.
Their daily dishes are top-notch, and the variety of meats and fish on the menu was impressive. From lamb and chicken to sardines and grouper, everything we tried was tasty. The snails are worth a try too!
We appreciated their attention to dietary needs. Our gluten and lactose intolerant kid had plenty of good options to choose from.
The service was friendly and caring, showing the pride of a longstanding family business. Each meal ended with a nice fruit dessert and sweet snacks, a lovely touch.
Dining under tree shade by the sea added to the relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
Overall, we highly recommend Klio Tavern for its excellent food, great service, and...
