A unique family-run tavern located at the end of a narrow alley up in the mountain village of Menetes. The owners are the descendants of the man who original opened this restaurant 40-years prior. They take great pride in their kitchen and garden, and rightly so since their food is delicious! They have a small traditional menu, but the recipes to every dish they serve are family-secrets handed down from one generation to the next. Our visit was concluded by a tour of the old family quarters, which has been kept in its original state in order to show how they use to live in the days of old. A real treat and something that added to the unique experience. I consider this restaurant to be one of the kind and a must for tourists wanting to experience the genuine Karpathos!

Taverna di autentico cibo tradizionale greco, dove si può capire come i greci abbiano influenzato la cucina pugliese e quindi italiana. Qui hanno la purea di fave come si faceva prima del minipimer, le cipolle, i prodotti presi dalla loro "farm". Irene è eccezionale e vi conquisterà con la sua simpatia, se sarete disponibili a voler far parte della sua cucina, tramandata da generazioni. Per i pugliesi orgogliosi che, come me, credevano di avere la cucina migliore del mondo, qui scopri che i "macarones" probabilmente sono i nostri strascinati, che il cacio ce lo hanno portato loro, che l'olio sapevano farlo (prima!), che... il Pumo porta fortuna (vedi foto) è un loro simbolo che porta fortuna e si chiama koukounari. Insomma la foto non è dei piatti, ma di un vero e proprio stargate tra Grecia e Italia (puglia). Ci torno, qui.

2 stars only for friendliness, food doesn't have anything to do with authentic greek food. Greek salad made half with cabbage, feta cheese was the cheapest you can find. Half of the menu missing from daily offer. Maybe in other season food was better, but for 2018 July you better go in another place. Even the fresh orange juice was bottled. Be careful most of the posted photos, by Google greenhorns, belong to other taverna...

Easily the best food on the island. The lamb stifado is simply amazing. Tasty and tender, the lamb comes from the owners farm nearby. Moussaka was delicious with all of the ingridients fresh and home grown. The atmosphere is great. I would be happy to return to Karpathos just to visit this...
