I thought of this as 'The tavern at the end of the Universe', product of necessity and love, owned by people who had a dream of independent living, who work all day and procure local produce, who will tell you what is fresh, and who don’t charge for a few of the things they serve. Falassarna bay has very good taverns with amazing sunset views but once I discovered this one, I did not look elsewhere for two weeks.
Spend the day in Elafonisi, Balos or Falassarna beach, and then return here for the perfect sunset dinner and enjoy the absolutely fabulous food. Forget everything else and get a warm feeling of the euphoria of life in your chest. The tavern just opened this year, not the best of times, but I hope it thrives!
Why is it called "Alikia'? Αλικιά means saltplane in Greek and the rocks you see in the picture form tiny salt planes. So the owners harvest the salt you eat from these rocks. I checked it myself, not just a nice myth. The tavern is owned by a nice Cretan couple who want to make a living by offering joy and joyous memories to others ...
Try the wonderful kakavia (fish soup) made with exquisitely fresh dragon fish, it comes as broth and a separate plate of fish and veg. Or ask whether they have fresh fish for the grill, and/or try the roast potatoes with the cheese and herbs, the fava (yellow split lentlis) with the capers, the amazing amanites mushrooms in herbs and lemon, the delicious cumin flavoured sausages, the Cretan pies with the greens and cheese, the wild greens salad or the beetroot salad, the sweet and savoury paperthin Sfakiani pitta (pie), the Cretan salad or the Green salad with the reduced wine dressing with the mitzithra cheese. God, everything is just amazing in this place and the location just unbelievable. I rate it as one of the best in the Med and I am no amateur on holidays in Greece and beyond. Prices are very very reasonable even for Cretan standards (great value for money everywhere) and the lovely wine costs very little - get merry if you like.
In conclusion, don’t miss this one. We may be a shadow of our ancient ancestors but, hey, we still have something to offer to the world - a few eudaimonic things in the world like a seaside Greek tavern, in particular this one; it is open all day, and is run by lovely people who deserve to make a living out...

Without the Google reviews we would not have found this special place so easily. Finding a more beautiful sunset is hard, finding an even better meal is even harder, but meeting such a warm host family is priceless. Together with the incredible food (the octopus blows your mind), these visits have surpassed anything we could have imagined. We had two unforgettable evenings with a family that could hardly be more welcoming. Starting with the incredibly attentive, great son, who does a better job than 99% of all other service staff (during his vacations), to the incredibly open mother, cook, boss, best hostess of the house. Thanks for the super delicious raki to the dad, the heartwarming laughter of the daughter and two evenings we will not forget. You should visit this place when you go to western crete. Thank you so much for these super special nights, we‘ll hope to come...

Menu in the restaurant says: small beer for 3,5 EUR Menu online says: small beer for 2,5 EUR
The view is ruined by ugly greenhouses around the coast.
We didnt taste the food here though.
Response to the owner: We were waiting for a long time when somebody came to the table, it was around 4pm and the restaurant was rather empty. My negative review was maybe hasty, was thinking about giving you more stars after posting, but after your unproffesional and inappropriate response, I think you deserve 1 star review. I dont know why you are so angry, did I say something which was not true? 1. menu online, 2. staff 3. greenhouses around? I did not say a thing about your food. As you surely know, the restaurant is not only about the actual food. I hope next time you will accept critique with some...
