Fantastic local restaurant with absolutely amazing food. Definitely the best we found on the entire island. Located in a really picturesque square in front of a church, with twinkly lights and rustic table setting, a fantastic atmosphere is ensured. Wednesday - Sunday live music. And food. OH WOW! We took two appetizers, croquet and smoked eggplant, and they were absolutely phenomenal. Mains (veal stew with eggplant and baked lamb) were fantastic as well. Full of flavor, juicy, perfectly seasoned, huge portions. Nothing missing, really. Finally also a place where they serve local Kytherian wine - strong but delicious! Absolutely delicious food cooked to order with love, care, and real passion. Cheese pies and leek pies are wonderful and would also highly recommend the pork tenderloin, the sausage, and the chicken shish kebab - chicken like it should be! Do not pass on the halloumi salad. Generous portions and excellent value for money. We ate there 3 nights in a row. Have just had a Sunday lunch listening to local musicians on bouzouki, accordion, and guitar. As an Irish person who loves traditional music - Planxty and the Bothy Band - in 20 years of coming to Greece, Kokino Spaleto on a Sunday afternoon in November has to be the most wonderful, magical, and memorable experience. Unfortunately my experience of this restaurant was more than bad. The food was horrible. It felt like the cook was still experimenting on how to match the descriptions of the menu. The stuff was polite but surely inexperienced. They made us feel uncomfortable with weird comments as well as asking to keep the change instead of letting us tip them ourselves!? In any case all the plates-one by one-where tasteless or even cooked in the wrong way. Price was a joke as we paid too much for the food amount/quality. Atmosphere and locationwise the place was nice but the rest ruined it. Kythera deserves...
