I enjoyed my dinner at Waves and Wines. The carpaccio was great, the salmon pasta was enjoyable but lacked a bit of refinement. The service was excellent and the staff was kind.
I would like to give Waves and Wines 5 stars, but I can't for the following reasons:
The Pornstar was just not what it should be for the price in my opinion, It was not served in a martini glass but in a bulky, unaesthatic glass. It was served with ice cubes, which I have never seen before. It dilutes the clear, sweet taste it usually has in my opinion. There was also no passion fruit in it, which is pretty standard I believe. Also can be served with a shot of prosecco, but I won't criticize it for that. The volume was generous and I can't speak about the quality of the ingredients, but my advice is to go form and taste over volume. I know Kythira has a hot climate, but please drop the ice cubes. Maybe it is the Greek way of preparing a pornstar or an original recipe, but if it is, I honestly don't prefer it.
I disliked the millefeuille dessert. Now admittedly I have not had this dish before, but it felt like it was 80% puff pastry, so it was a bit dry. When searching the dish on Google it seems different.
There is still a lot of potential here, and I am thankful for...
Read moreA true experience through and through! If you want to find phenomenal food paired with wine, warm atmosphere and professionalism you should visit Waves and Wines. The service was exceptional, everyone was extremely polite, professionals to a T and always with a smile on their faces. They took care of everything and made us feel more than welcome. The place itself projects elegance and warmth and the music is perfect for relaxing and enjoy your conversation. When it comes to food, the team provides a vast variety that took everyone by surprise. They truly offer cullinary art. Each plate was a burst of flavor from the twist-of-spanakopita salad and the carpaccio (it even incorporates elements of molecular, cuisine) to the carbonara (the original one) and the Osso Bucco orzo (balanced, creamy and heavenly). The biggest surprise was their new addition to the menu…the Japanese wagyu made to perfection from the cooking and the tenderness of the wagyu till the dressing, the mashed yardlong beans and the mushrooms!
Congratulations to the chef and the whole team! Thank you...
Read moreI don’t generally like to give bad reviews, but after dining at a similar “finer” restaurant in Avlemonas, I felt it would be unfair not to share my honest experience at Waves and Wines (especially for those seaking a more elevated dinning experience in Kythera). The wine list is quite limited and doesn’t really reflect the restaurant’s name. Overall, the place tries to project a “finer” dining style with small portions and elevated presentation, but the execution falls short. For example, the pork tomahawk was large, but it came with only four baby potatoes on the side. The mango salad was completely overpowered by an overly sweet and chilly mango sauce, making it heavy rather than refreshing. The ceviche wasn’t really ceviche, but more like a tartare with small fish pieces. Finally, the tagliata was on the small side, served cold, and accompanied by just a few mushrooms (described as seasonal, but they were simply pleurotus). In general, I appreciate the effort to offer a “better” menu option in Kythera, but unfortunately the concept is not...
