Athivoli — Restaurant in Municipality of Monemvasia

I only give it four stars, since I visited this restaurant under the name pipinelli for over thirty years. At pipinellis time it even got a tree house bar, but unfortunately after so many years of service, customers demanded something new!!.. The new Owner does a very good job ,the food is excellent and served with experience.. But, if I have to wait almost thirty minutes to take my order, ( not the first time) another 15 minutes to bring our ordered first course and another15/20 minutes for my main course then I become angry and possibly will never show up or even recommend the restaurant to my friends ! Explanation was, first come, first served!? I like to see also one daily plat de jour (Main Course) on the Menu, and not only a la cart minute choices! I write my comments not to downgrade a very good restaurant, but having worked myself for over 43 years in the culinary branch, in one of the top international hotel companies, hopefully reflecting the experience of many customers, and will help only to adjust a few but in my opinion important factors. Unfortunately, I am very disappointed with this place. The reviews were great – both in terms of food quality and service, which is why we came to this restaurant. It turned out that the dishes had almost the same sauce (chimney sauce) and it was difficult to eat. The service was friendly, true, but you also wait for good food. Here, everything seemed to be just so-so. The dishes were greasy because of the sauce. We went twice, but the second time was the same, unfortunately. Fish with potatoes in lime sauce. Pasta with meat. Beef with mashed potatoes - everything tasted similar. Local sausage - unfortunately, it was not suitable for grilling. A big disappointment. And as some people wrote - at the end, nothing was offered, even though the bill was actually high. On top of that, there were cats attacking us, which really did not allow us to eat in peace... To be fair, the mushrooms were tasty, although the second time they were so soaked in lime sauce that it was...

The atmosphere was lovely and the food also did not disappoint us, but unfortunately the service was unsatisfactory. We were seated in the far corner of the outdoor seating area and treated as such, as if we were forgotten about. After finishing our food, we sat there for an exceptionally long time waiting to be offered desert. Perhaps even something else to drink would have been nice? But unfortunately, nothing. After our food was given, we were no longer checked up on. Upon leaving, the server became rather pushy in demanding we give a tip. We were not pleased with the service and therefore did not respond to his requests for a tip, however that did not stop him from asking four separate times while holding onto our bill. After feeling rather shamed for not giving a tip; we gave one despite the service. This is definitely not normal service in Greece and we didn't appreciate these...
