I was genuinely shocked by our experience at Bottice, especially given the glowing reviews. Having worked in hospitality for 20 years — from pubs to award-winning restaurants — I always try to be fair, but this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had.
From the moment we arrived, the owner and staff were sitting outside drinking and smoking. We weren’t greeted or even asked for drinks. The supposed gluten-free options (which drew us here in the first place) were poorly communicated, not clearly displayed on the menu, and left us guessing even after translating.
When drinks eventually arrived, the red wine was served ice cold. Only after asking did we get a warmer bottle. Meanwhile, the least experienced waiter was left running around handling every table while the owner and others sat laughing, drinking, and smoking. There was no effort to provide attentive service.
As for the food: • The sardines were tasty but tiny and came with nothing on the side — very expensive for what they were. • The chicken à la crème was generous in portion and came with chips. • The sea bass orzo was a disaster: chewy, overcooked fish, undercooked pasta, and barely a spoonful of actual fish in the dish. • The pork steak was completely cremated.
But the real low point was the payment. My friend went to settle the bill (over €300). When he tried to pay by card, the manager refused, claiming this was a “cash-only reservation” — something never mentioned at booking or during service. He insisted he wouldn’t accept card because it would generate an additional transaction with fees for him. We tried to pull together enough cash between us, but came up short. Only then, when he realised he might not get the full amount, did he suddenly agree to process a card payment — the same one he had just refused. The whole situation made no sense, felt dishonest, and was extremely uncomfortable.

The waiters suddenly lost their interest after catching us at a table. They couldn't serve properly even the beverages and they were indifferent to rude.
They screwed the orders and became almost agressive when we tried to explain. Maybe this one it was because of the language barrier, even if they are trying to express a few words in many languages.
The food... almost the same. Eatable, but far from being good. Rubber calamari and octopus, too boiled mussels in an undefined tasteless soup, hard bread, no spices, no oil, no vinegar, no napkins. Even french fries were't enough fried...
The toilets were almost clean, meaning I was able to use at least the ladies room, although the towel dispenser wasn't working.
At last but not the least, the light was very low. Hard to see what you eat, even harder to read the menu.
So, if you want to have a ruined dinner with a rude waiter calling you "my friend", to wait hours for food, to eat or drink things you didn't order and anyway not too good, please join...

When we asked to pay only for what we had eaten which was just a salad and fish roe, we got the bill with all the things on it, even with a bottle of water (which we didn’t order and didn’t open). When we only left the money for what we had consumed, one of the waiters came after us and started arguing with us on the street, even insulted us telling us if we don’t have money we should stay home, and even threatening us with calling the police.
