Thalassa - Sea Food Taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Northern Corfu

Really disappointed with our experience at Thalassa Taverna. We were hoping for a lovely evening with a beautiful view but unfortunately we left very disappointed and frustrated. Service was extremely slow, drinks and food were forgotten on more than one occasion. Had to remind the staff both times that we were still waiting on people’s drinks and then mains. There was a 40 minute wait between starters being finished and then cleared with a further 20 minute wait for mains (so an hour between starters and mains). After having to get up and ask where our mains were. Four out of the five mains arrived, chicken was terrible - overcooked and my daughter struggled to cut it and chew it. Both steaks were over cooked, one came with the incorrect sides, fries not grilled veg.. “peppercorn” sauce was awful, arrived burnt and tasted terrible. Ten minutes later the prawn linguine arrived, looked lovely but again a bit on the cold side. Over all extremely disappointed with our experience this evening. Tired and uncaring service, go to the BlueWave lounge instead.

This taverna is perfectly placed right next to the beach to enjoy the sea. However it is displaced by the staff who not unfriendly, but unbothered and a 'couldn't careless attitude'. This was reflected when we ordered bruschetta which had a green 'v' next to it for vegetarian. When served it had meat it in, and when we pointes this out we were told 'you have to tell us you want it vegetarian'. Although they offered to replace the full meal, don't put 'v' next to a item if it's not vegetarian, or if you have 'to tell the staff' indicate this on the menu somewhere.

Imagine being allergic to gluten or lactose so pick an item indicated as being free of these, only to have the opposite presented because you didn't tell them. This wouldn't fly anywhere.

This place thrives because of the location and it seems the owners/staff knows this and do not care at all. Instead the neighbouring bar the BlueWave lounge beats this taverna...

Food was alright. Shrimps and fish were good. Nice location. Food took quiet long to come, roughly one hour.

Guests at table next to us ordered vegan dish. Which had meat on top... When asked about it, the head waiter explained that "it's just little bit on top. What do you want me to do?!". For starters they order a salad and specifically asked for it to come without feta. It came with feta... And they had to wait another 30mins.

After paying, I noticed the sea bass on the receipt was 27 EUR instead of the 25 EUR in the menu.

All in all - for us at least - it was ok. Not more, not less.

Keep in mind parking is very scarce there. Very little free street parking and a paid parking lot (5EUR). There is another restaurant in town which has its' own (free) parking lot. Not sure about the food...
