I love the long sweet fried in olive oil and sprinkled with crushed nuts. Cold Cappucino of €4 is bit expensive.

Besides the simple café orders, the lady owner doesn't care about customer service. In total, we bought 4 bottles (2 glass bottles, 2 metal) of Vouves Olive Oils. One of the two glass bottles was broken and spilt in my luggage upon my own fault. Hence, we returned on the last day again to buy extra and require a bubble wrap for the glass bottle left. Her husband was nice to give us. He then left the café. Later, we thought of wrapping the 2 extra metal bottles that we purchased, just for sure. She insisted the metal won't break. Yes, we know it won't break like the glass but for luggage, who knows what'll happen. In turn, I "beg" for the bubble wrap politely, she replied "whatever" with an unkind expression. We got the bubble wrap in the end, and the metal bottle was indeed crooked in the luggage even we wrapped them. Poor customer service or lazy?

Note of washing spilled oil in your luggage:...

A Hidden Gem in Ano Vouves – Unforgettable Experience! Just a short walk from the oldest olive tree in the world, we stumbled upon this beautiful traditional tavern in Ano Vouves—and what an incredible surprise it was! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed like old friends. The owners are some of the warmest, kindest people we've met in Crete—genuinely passionate about their food and hospitality.

The food? Absolutely amazing! The staka with eggs was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted—rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor. And the saganaki was perfectly crispy and melty—simply unforgettable. You can tell everything is made with love and tradition.

We left this place with full hearts, full stomachs, and big smiles on our faces. A truly authentic Cretan experience I’ll never forget. Don’t miss this spot if you're...

If you just happen to come to Vouves or already plan to visit, it is definitely worth having lunch at this small family business. Mrs Archontoúla serves splendid traditional Cretan dishes, being always friendly with a smile. Even if you just need a refreshment you can have your pitstop here and sit in view of the ancient olive tree. The family also sells some traditional agricultural products...

Beautiful location with local products, traditional-tavern vibes and very welcoming and nice staff! We were 8 and took more starters to share, everything was delicious! And, if you like kataif, they have a really good one here. It's also right next to an Ancient Olive Tree, so you can cross that from your bucket list. Ohh and I recommend going inside to check their olive based products.

Spent lovely time here on the vine shaded terrace, over a pint of lager and a cup of espresso freddo. They have Chania beer, which is a gorgeous local craft. Also, clients can purchase single estate extra virgin olive oil from Kolimbari region (one of the most awarded in Greece) for the price of 15 Euro/liter. The owner gifted us with a grape.
