ROMANTZA CAFE-RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Municipality of Platanias

We stumbled across this little family-run spot in Crete and it turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip. It’s run by a lovely mother and daughter—Marcella takes care of the service (which was super friendly and quick), and her mum is in the kitchen cooking up magic.

We started with tzatziki, dolmades, and saganaki—all super fresh and full of flavor. The tzatziki was especially bright and full of flavor.

We also had the most amazing Green Salad. Lettuce, avocado, olives, and a zesty vinegar dressing.

For mains, we had pancetta, a burger, and grilled chicken—all served with fresh lemon that made everything pop. The portions were generous without being over the top and the value was incredible considering the cost at some restaurants in more tourist centric areas around Crete.

From the moment you step into Romanza, you feel genuinely welcome. The staff is exceptionally friendly, open, honest, and truly interested in their guests. It feels less like being just a customer and more like becoming part of a small, warm community.

The food is a real highlight. The dishes are authentic, lovingly prepared, and full of flavor. It’s also great to see that vegetarian options are available, and they’re just as delicious and thoughtfully made as the rest of the menu. The prices are very fair for the quality you receive.

The atmosphere is inviting and relaxing. The soft outdoor lighting creates a cozy ambiance, especially in the evenings. Located in a quiet spot in the heart of a small town, the setting adds to the overall charm and peaceful experience.
