Whilst staying at the Imperial Palace Hotel which is across the road, we thought we would try this beach side restaurant, and we were so glad we did. From the moment we walked into through the door, we were greeted like old friends, and this is our first visit to Crete, let alone this establishment. We were given a lovely table with a great view out over the ocean. It is very early in the season and they had sold out of all fish and this was explained to us. We had no issues with this and understood the predicament of ordering s fresh supplies when numbers would be unknown at this time of year. We did get a seafood platter for two, with some mussels and fries. This platter was excellently cooked and fresh. The Calamari, Octopus and Large prawns were the star of the show. Each one with a good char from the grill, but not over cooked in any way. The waiting staff were a joy to talk too. They clearly enjoy serving food they know will delight the customers. We ordered a Red Snapper for the following evening and we again had the seafood platter as well. The snapper was deboned table side and like the previous evening food, this was superb. The next evening we returned for the third time and this was our last night in Crete. This time we had the meat platter for two and this was equally as good as the seafood. The restaurant is low key and in no way fancy. It is very relaxed and lots of locals were also dining here, which is always a positive to me. The prices are very reasonable and the local semi sweet wine is perfect for drinking whilst eating and listening to the small waves lapping the beach below. We would truly travel to Crete to eat here again. It would be a big part of any return to the island for us, it...
Read moreOrdered Lavraki fish for 2 people (45€/kg) We were charged 45€, while the fish was nog 1kg, more like 750/800gr. But anyway...ok, it's fine, no problem. However: After finishing the fish (which was OK, but i have eaten better) the manager asked if we would liked a small desert, some ice cream. We agreed, assuming that the desert would be on the house, as is of course always the case in Greece. Later at home i found out that he charged us 7€ for 2 small bowls of vanilla icecream to share. Couldn't believe my own eyes.
My wife is Greek, and together we are travelling for 15 years around Greece, this is the first time we felt just ashamed in the manager's place and completely ripped-off. Please stop ruining the reputation of honest restaurants, and if you want to rip off people, do so with completely unknowing tourists - they can then give you 5 star reviews about the lovely setting (which it is).
Anyway, of course it was a "mistake" on your side and this and that. Intention matters,...
Read moreBy far the best taverna right on the beach with the most amazing seafood. Our host recommended this taverna since her son worked there, and it did not disappoint. As a Greek I am always hesitant with tavernas right on the beach and the quality of the food, but this taverna is amazing. The best fish I have had in a very long time. The staff is so friendly and went out of their way to get us some sea urchins to taste (I had asked prior if it was the season for sea urchins). Amazing quality traditional food for amazing prices. A good stop for some lunch or dinner under the shade listening to the cicadas on the background and watching the amazing Aegean blue right in front of you. Quite some locals to be found too, so that's a...
