Everything is just perfect at the Cantina Banana. A hidden gem! We discovered this place by chance walking to the Mili Gorge. The place itself looks like a little tropical paradise cut out of civilization, in the middle of mountains and nature. Banana trees, all wood, refreshing artificial side rain to irrigate the the trees and cool down the place. The food is a true immersion in Cretan tradition. We made the tour of Rethymno restaurants, all good, but nothing alike. We discovered delicious specialties nowhere advertised, everything super fresh and tastes delicious, for all tastes. The staff are just the loveliest and most welcome people, they make you feel home in a family gathering! If you're tired of the city, buildings, roads, cars, Cantina Banana is the place to go in the area. Reachable by car 10min, or walking 30min-1h depending on your walking speed. No...

After an invigorating hike through the Mili Gorge, we stopped in this authentic cantina. The owner's warmth and enthusiasm were truly commendable. Not only did they offer valuable tips for our return hike to Rethymon, but they also went the extra mile in creating a special vegan plate for me. It was nothing short of divine, leaving me yearning for more even after the last bite. Do not miss the chance to treat your taste buds to the delights this cantina has to offer. Highly...

Fresh fruit juices from the garden. The owners have rerouted a bit of the stream water to run over the roof of the cantina, so that you feel like in a tropical rainforest during a downpour - nice touch. Nicely shaded under the large Banana plants. Very friendly staff who will gladly set you up with a reasonably priced (15€) taxi ride back to the top of the gorge. Limited parking available, so park at the top of the gorge...
