Taverna Elia — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

On our last evening in Crete, we were looking for the perfect, truly local family taverna where we could enjoy a perfect dinner — and luckily, we chose this place. On the way there, we were a bit nervous, as we drove along a winding, unlit, serpentine road, but every minute of it was worth it. I can honestly say we’ve never experienced this kind of genuine, heartfelt kindness and attentiveness anywhere else before.

We ordered tzatziki, dolmadakia, and moussaka — everything was amazing and incredibly delicious!

After leaving, I felt recharged, and my heart was full of love, because dining here felt like visiting a local family who welcomed us with warmth and open arms.

Jumped on the tour bus in Rethymno and saw that it was passing by the village Chromonastiri, after wandering around the village we came across this beautiful traditional taverna! We unfortunately did not bring a lot of cash but that did not stop us from having an amazing meal! Got the Meze for 2 and it was absolutely delicious!!
