Really worth a visit On a short break in Crete this was the closest restaurant to our villa. So having tried a harbourside restaurant in Rethmino (ok but expensive - you pay for the view) we decided to try something "more traditional"...twice. Both times the food was very good and reasonably priced. The first time there was a waitress working, she was brilliant, knew the menu and the wines well and had an enthusiasm for both. My daughter loved the "leaky Cauldron salad" - pictured, I had squid which was perfectly cooked (not tough and rubbery) on our second visit my wife had the veal steak - 15oz: a huge lump of meat... too much for one in my opinion. Read moreEverything we ordered was great. We ordered some shrimps and a squid that were very fresh. The mussaka was homemade and a big portion. The gyros was a bit different than expected but it was very good, the Greek salad was okay. We ordered that for 5 people and we ended up being very full. Plus, they gifted us to the desert which was delicious.
The bartender was warm and professional. She suggested us a bottle of wine which was incredible (Cretan Hawk?). She was fast and attentive, everything went smooth with her.

Read moreThis is a lovely local restaurant. The woman didn't seem hugely welcoming when we first got there, but as time went on, she got more friendly.
There's a good menu with lots of options but not so great for vegetarians. There are more options on the appetisers, and the portion sizes mean you could have an appetiser as your main.
The shrimp dish was delicious as well as the fried egg and potato strangely! Stuffed peppers were also tasty and huge. Definitely recommend it here if you are staying locally!
