A Heartwarming Experience in Salakos
Nestled in the picturesque village of Salakos, this charming Greek restaurant has been a true gem during our visits in both 2020 and 2024. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the former owner and matriarch of the family, who personally handled the cooking with such care and passion. Now, the restaurant is lovingly run by her daughter, who has maintained the same high standards and dedication to authentic Greek cuisine.
The food is absolutely delicious and continues to be a reflection of the rich family tradition. Many of the ingredients come from their own garden, and you can taste the difference – everything is fresh, flavorful, and prepared with love. As always it is wise to try the special of the day!
On top of the exceptional food, the experience is made even more special by the village’s ancient, towering tree, which provides the perfect shade on a warm day. Under its branches, you can enjoy your meal while listening to the gentle sound of the nearby fountain, where you can wash your face with cool water to refresh yourself between courses. The beer is always ice-cold, served in chilled glasses, adding to the refreshing experience.
This place isn’t just about the food – it's the welcoming atmosphere, the family’s heartfelt hospitality, and the beautiful setting that make it truly unforgettable. Whether you're visiting for the first time or coming back as we did, you’re guaranteed a heartwarming and authentic Greek experience. I can’t recommend this place enough – it’s a treasure in the heart of Salakos that you won’t want to miss! Skip a dinner at your all-inclusive hotel and rent a scooter or a car...
Read moreOn the 15th of September we drove to the mountains to a village to find a nice Greek tavern
In the village center there are several restaurants next to each other and they all have tables across the street on the market place under an old tree and surrounding the 100year old fountain At Sentrouvani restaurant ( fountain-restaurant) we saw some old locals enjoying their slow food, always a good indicator when choosing your restaurant of course 😉
We chose to wait a bit longer for the fresh stuffed wine leaves, which were still being prepared And it was worth waiting for! Also for vegetarians there are several dishes: delicious cheeses with vegetables, stuffed pumpkin flowers freshly picked from the garden (zucchini season was finished)
Because they had a busy day the family felt we waited too long for our meals. Although we assured them it was really fine, we were offered a plate of fresh homemade cake when we ordered our coffees. Even for the not-so-keen-on-dessert-people as myself this was a real treat in every meaning of the word, I recommend you try the orange cake, a sweet but fresh delight
Thanks again to the family-team for the marvelous meals, and...
Read moreSentrouvani was the best find and highlight of our entire holiday in Rhodes! We returned multiple times throughout our short trip and I couldn’t recommend it more.
Kiki and her whole family were so incredibly welcoming and kind - the restaurant felt like our second home! Kiki’s hospitality and generosity is unmatched. Kiki and Mama Meni served up the most delicious authentic Greek food. The food was all homemade and so wholesome, and Kiki took such great care of us. Our favourite dishes were the octopus cooked in red wine, vinegared mackerel and octopus, gigantes, omelette and gemista.
Lots of the ingredients used in the dishes were picked from Kiki’s garden (such as olives, leafy greens, wild asparagus that only grows for 1 month a year) and she also made delicious homemade rose petal jam and herbal tea leaves which made for adorable souvenirs/gifts to bring back home.
This family-owned restaurant has been open for 52 years and I can completely see why. It feels like a home away from home. In the future when I return to Rhodes this will be the first place I am visiting!
Thanks again...
