Foodie alert! My Samos trip just keeps getting better, and I have to tell you about a dining experience that was the perfect end to a long day of beach hopping: Trata Restaurant in Ormos Marathokampos. This isn't your average tourist trap. Trata is a traditional, family-run taverna with a real soul. It's located right in the small, picturesque harbor, and the setting is everything you dream of when you picture a Greek island dinner. We sat with a view of the fishing boats gently bobbing in the water as the sun set. Talk about a perfect photo op! 🌅 Trata is famous for its fresh fish, and for a good reason. The owner is a fisherman himself, so you know what you're getting is literally as fresh as it gets. We started with some classic meze—the creamy fava was out of this world, and the grilled octopus was so tender, it practically melted in my mouth. But the main event was the fish. We were able to choose our own catch of the day, and it was simply grilled to perfection with a squeeze of lemon and some local herbs. It was so simple, yet so flavorful, proving that when the ingredients are this good, you don't need to do much else. The atmosphere is so relaxed and authentic. The service was warm and friendly, and you can tell they take immense pride in what they do. It's the kind of place where you feel like you're a guest in their home, not just a customer. If you want a taste of real, traditional Samos cuisine in a beautiful and authentic setting, you absolutely have to eat at Trata. It's an experience I won't soon forget! #TrataSamos #SamosFood #GreekTaverna #FreshFish #AuthenticGreece #FoodieTravel #IslandLife #EatLikeALocal...
Read moreFood and prices were decent. Apart from this generally negative impression. POS was "not working" so i had to leave my table drive back twenty minutes to find an ATM to pay in cash. Did not receive a proper receipt but something like an order receipt which of course included taxes!! Apart from the youngest waiter all the others were rude. Also they decided that they would keep the tips by themselves saying when we paid the bill, "we are ok". Definitely not going back to this place.
Thank you for your reply, but I stand by my original review as everything I mentioned is accurate, and I have multiple people who can corroborate my experience.
It’s disappointing to see that instead of addressing the issues politely, your response is defensive and dismissive. I don’t understand why you would be "VERY VERY happy" that I won’t return to your restaurant, especially when all I asked for was courteous service and a proper receipt, which I believe are reasonable expectations for any paying customer.
I hope future customers receive a more professional...
Read moreYesterday I hear read this from a good friend. Never had such an inhospitable treatment in 27 years of travel in Greece, and very often alone. Place is fulll, I ask for a table and a couple just left and said their table was free. However, I was not allowed to sit at that table, because it was a table for 4 people. In other words- we don’t earn enough with you as a single person occupying a table that could potentially bring us 2-4 times the revenue. Last detail- the whole conversation was in Greek, which usually meets with appreciation of putting the effort in to learn the difficult language. This is not the filoxenia that Greece, and particularly Samos stands out for. At my usual place, I can choose to sit wherever I want, no problem. Luckily, this is the exception and the first time that filoxenia was replaced by dollar signs in the eyes of the staff - and there are plenty more places to choose from. I will avoidthis...
