The Mexican — Restaurant in Municipality of Zografos

I think the place is overhyped. We visited on a busy day but, thankfully, got a table without waiting.

Positives: The place is awesome, the decoration is really nice and doesn't feel overcrowded. The music is not too loud which makes the stay enjoyable. The service staff is really friendly and helpful Still a little bit cheaper than most Mexican places in Athens (but still expensive) Good variety & big portions

Negatives: We had to wait for more than 40 minutes to get our food (after we ordered). On the positive side the waitress informed us, that there would be a delay, and brought some nachos, but still... We were not impressed by the food. Felt like the (main) dishes we got were pretty much the same and felt like there was too much sauce in everything. It wasn't bad, but it was just ok and lacked creativity. At 12-17€ per dish I was expecting something more. I think that overall it is overhyped and you end up paying quite a lot.

Final thoughts: It is by no means cheap of perfect, but of you want to eat Mexican food it might be only of the (few) decent and...

The Mexican is a (you guessed it!) Mexican restaurant in Zografou. It's beautiful, albeit small. The dishes are a bit expensive, but still considerably cheaper than the ones you'd find in other Mexican restaurants in Athens. Their chipotle chicken is the tastiest spicy chicken I've ever tasted, but be careful as it burns your mouth within 2 milliseconds and miiiight give you digestive problems that last two or more days if you're not used to spicy food. Also, with the way it's served, with a tiny amount of rice and some tortilla chips, you're bound to need another dish to go along with it. Η γαστρονομία τους το αποδεικνύει με εκρηκτικές γεύσεις που καθηλώνουν και μια παράδοση που μετράει αιώνες, από την εποχή των σοφών Μάγιας και των ρωμαλαίων Αζτέκων, μέχρι την επιρροή των Κονκισταδόρς. Θα βρείτε πασίγνωστα πιάτα, από ορεκτικά και δροσερές σαλάτες μέχρι παραδοσιακά μεξικάνικα κυρίως πιάτα και γλυκά, με πολλές δυνατότητες εξερεύνησης λιγότερο συνηθισμένων και πρωτότυπων γεύσεων. Όλα μπορείτε να συνοδέψετε με μαργαρίτα, παγωμένη μπύρα, τεκίλα ή σανγκριά για ένα ολοκληρωμένο ταξίδι γεύσης! Εμείς λόγω εποχής (και θερμοκρασίας…) παίξαμε λιτά αν και οι μερίδες είναι γενναίες και ιδανικές, θα λέγαμε, για τη “μέση”. Δοκιμάσαμε:

🐶 Jalapeno popers: Παναρισμένα janapenos γεμιστά με cheddar που συνοδεύονται από σάλτσα taquera & sour creme…καυτερό και μούρλια!!

🐶 Μπουρίτο κοτόπουλο: Tορτίγια σχάρας γεμιστή με κοτόπουλο, κρεμμύδι, πιπεριά, φασόλια, sour creme, pico de gallo & σάλτσα φρέσκιας ντομάτας…α έχει και ρυζάκι ον δε σάιντ…ε ένα μπουριτάκι να το φάτε! Προσοχή είναι τεράστιο!!! 😉

🐶 Pastel Charro: τοστάδας στο φούρνο με χοιρινό, κόκκινη σάλτσα, κρεμμύδι, πιπεριά και τυρί (Μαστ!!)

Να το προτιμήσετε Fooddogakia, για τις εξαιρετικές, αυθεντικές μεξικάνικες γεύσεις του, τον παιχνιδιάρικο χώρο του, τις τεράστιες μερίδες του και για την τέλεια σανγκριά του (και οι μαργαρίτες άριστες…)....
