As a fine dining restaurant philema has a pleasant ambiance, with reasonable but not outstanding service. Good views across the small fishing port of Mitikas from all tables, which are all well spaced out giving you and your party a feeling of privacy. Good wine list from rose, white to red, although very overpriced. However if you are drinking wine, I would recommend the Malagousia by Gerovasiliou in Epanomi. Excellent with seafood and full of summer scent, vibrant colour and flavour. A real gem. Appetizers we had savory kataifi and sword fish bites which where both very well thought out dishes which really did taste excellent. Swordfish was a bit spicy and hot, but I liked that. Kataifi was superb. Unfortunately entrees where not up to expectations. Cod in lemon sauce was bland and I would say cold and probably frozen not fresh. Kalamari was a bit tough, but we did ask and we were told the truth by our waiter that it was indeed frozen not fresh. The prawn dish was I would say the weakest on the table. Very small portion, very anorexic prawns and without some sort of substantial carbohydrate to balance, I thought the dish was definitely lacking. Desert was amazing, souffle and orange cake, full of flavour, hefty and delicious and good sized portions, so 10 out of 10 for that. Overall, excellent apertizers, very poor entrees but top marks for desserts. However with a price tag of around €50 per head, in Mitikas, which is literally on the sea I would expect much better quality sea food and fish entrees that are at least fresh and locally sourced and at least decent portion sizes.
So with that in mind I would say too overpriced for what you actually get! Unfortunately will not...
Read moreThe total effort can be seen from the welcome. Α unexpectedly cozy place, with an almost success in everything we ate. The 2 things that cost them a star, is the pressing and frequent service. You don't constantly stir the served wine with the bottle wine, also it's just annoyed to be someone all the time at your table. The second thing is that when we ask for a desert they inform us that the kitchen is closed. In that kind of restaurants, just before the kitchen ends, you must take care the tables are already served. Although the waiter, he served us the desert after our complains under his own responsibility. The desert was absolutely indifferent, compared to the food level. Try the carpaccio, it...
Read moreMy husband and I thoroughly enjoyed dining at this restaurant. Nikos our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about Greek wines. The owner was friendly and we enjoyed chatting to him about this adorable town. The food was wonderful - all the seafood was fresh and expertly prepared. The portions were a generous size. The wine list was extensive with some excellent examples of Greek wine. Bottled water and bread were brought out immediately and added to the bill at the end - this is fairly common practice in Greek restaurants so be aware of the additional cost (which is perfectly reasonable). We definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant. It was a highlight of our...
