Acron — Restaurant in Sami Municipality

Cannot fault the afternoon we have just spent lounging here. In short, “free” comfy sun loungers, in that you just have to buy something, be that an actually fairly reasonably-priced drink, or some pretty tasty food at also not-obnoxious prices for what you get, and very proactive but non-obtrusive service from the comfort of your sun-bed. To set the scene, we are not usually sun lounger folks, splashing 30€ purely for the privilege of some inclined timber-foam combos, and we were initially characteristically sceptical at the slightly swanky hotel vibes that the clean decking walkways and open air near-beach bar presented. But here we were greeted politely as we were passing the sun-bed area, asked if we knew how it worked here (in a very relaxed way, no hint of hard-sell) and given a quick explanation of which areas are which for this bar and the other beach bar etc. so definitely chat to one of the people in the branded shirts (another red flag for us usually 😅) as they were all really helpful and friendly. As above, the drinks weren’t horrendous tourist prices in my opinion, 5€ for a large beer/glass of wine (at time of writing at least haha!), and the food was a really good standard with a decent selection. Highly recommend the feta in fried phyllo with honey and walnuts 👌🏻 And last, but very much not least, a special shout out to our new best friend Vasilis, who won our hearts and minds as he not only catered casually yet attentively to our sporadic orders over the 4+ hours we settled in for, but also ended up answering our copious questions about Greek grammar, language, and some culture too, all very eloquently, which really was above and beyond the call of duty, and we enjoyed the chat very much — hope we didn’t distract from that duty too much… Efcharistoume poly,...

I think we can all agree that the most important part in any establishment is the personnel and the behaviour it has towards the customers. If we wanted to have a worst experience and more irony and bad behaviour, I dont think we could find another beach bar in all of Kefalonia. We live here and also bring lots of friends and family to the island as well as booking to other people and always recommend this beach for it is one of the most beautiful on Kefalonia. The experiences we had and not only that ALMOST ALL our guests or friends had on this beach bar was at the very least inappropriate. I dont like to write bad reviews for establishments because I understand the ramifications it has to the image of said business.

BUT, when you have so many bad experiences with irony: wanted to sit on the front row and being mocked by an employee who thought we couldn't afford it (2018), not to mention the prices everything is sold at which are more than 50% of every other bar in this beach. Especially in the sun umbrella category (10 euros at the bars to the right and 30 to 40 in Acron). Also, every other parking lot is free except supposedly the one behind Acron, getting kicked out of your umbrella because "they are reserved" even though minutes before another staff member gave us permission to sit there (2021). This also happened to our customers this year and they heard the employee giving ironic/sarcastic remarks in the distance (2022). These are just a portion of the bad experiences we or friends had. Moreover, we have to mention the price to food/drink ratio with either the quality or mostly the sizes being small. We are very dissatisfied with this beach bar and we really want them to take a turn for the better because it gives a bad image...

Awful experience. We had lunch for 5 and were shown to a nice table, in the shade with a view over the free sunbeds to the sea. That’s where the good bits ended. As soon as our drinks arrived we were descended upon by lots of wasps. They bothered us continually. The staff obviously knew they were a pest as they brought a small pot of some her or spice that was burning to try and deter them. It made no difference. When the food arrived it got even worse. More wasps arrived and were a real nuisance. The staff noticed again and brought another pot to create smoke but this just blew in our faces and didn’t deter the wasps at all. Wasps landed on 2 of the meals and crawled all over them. Neither person with those meals felt it was the hygienic to consume them. When staff came over we explained the situation and said 2 meals were inedible due to the wasps. They said it is not their responsibility. It is an area of nature and they are not allowed to do anything to any animal (and listed birds, snakes, hedgehogs(!) and wasps. We have been to lots of restaurants on Kefalonia and most have wasps but all have dealt with them so that they are not pests to customers. When we said we were unhappy to pay for the two inedible meals we were told we could either take them away in a box or they would call the police. We were happy to pay for all the drinks and food we consumed (was consumable) just not the meals we literally did not touch. As tourists we didn’t want to make a fuss and (ridiculously) involve the police so we very reluctantly paid the bill and left.

Very poor attitude and very poor service - and a really unpleasant taverna experience. Do not eat...
