Elatino — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

We have been returning here since our first trip when we called in on a coach trip 22 years ago. Back then the embroidery and cushion covers were next to the restaurant and not in teh basement. We still use the table-cloth at Christmas that we bought on our initial visit.

When you drive around the north of the island, all roads seem to lead to Volimes, and we take advantage of that during our holidays. We called in a few times this year for brunch/lunch.

The food is excellent, the portion sizes are enormous and we have never had a bad meal there. I normally try the specials and fall back on teh greek salad if nothing takes my fancy. The country style chips are out of this world, huge crispy, deep fried wedges,...

Elatino is hands down one of the best dining experiences we've had on the island! This family-owned taverna is full of warmth, hospitality, and incredible homemade food. I had the best moussaka of my life here — rich, creamy béchamel, perfectly cooked layers of eggplant and meat, and that golden crust on top was absolute perfection. You can taste the love and care in every bite.

The owner treated us like family. Everything felt authentic. The atmosphere is cozy, welcoming, and exactly what you hope for in a local taverna.

This place deserves a high rating for sure. We were just driving through the little mountain town and we randomly decided to try this place out. It’s a casual and relaxed tavern vibe with front patio seating. Nothing fancy at all. Lo and behold, though, it’s a 5-star rated place. The Moussaka made us curse out loud and moan after eating the first bite. I forgot to snap a pick until it was almost gone. Their salads are very good too, especially the zakynthian salad that we had for the first time. I’m sure they prepare everything else well too. Really wanted to try the souvlaki.
