Excellent food, and great hospitality by the hostess! Food was so delicious, very fresh, it surpassed our expectations, considering this tavern was kind of far from the city (hora), about an hour drive. If you happened to go see the shipwreck site, on your way back you owe it to yourself to enjoy this great Greek cuisine- as long as you have nothing against Mediterranean cuisine and especially Greek cuisine. We were so amazed with the food we asked to see the chef, who came out to great us for a few minutes. The typical sweet, smiley Greek yiayia (grandmother), but I must say very beautiful young yiayia and too young for the mother-in-law of the hostess). We felt at home, and perhaps that made our early dinner such an unforgettable experience, enjoying such delicious home-made cooking. My kid's and their Italian friend requested that we bring them back again before leaving the island- I promised them but regrettably my short stay at the island did not allowed it. But next year, God willing, I will definitely make sure I go see them and enjoy the food with my family. At the end of our meal, the hostess served us with a nice chilly watermelon (surprise to us) very quenching, especially in the heat of early afternoon, and after that she even offered us a special drink they made themselves which my kids liked so much they wanted to buy it , but it was not for sale, only for local consumption hostess said. And the last pleasant surprise, which was the cherry on the cake for me because I, the dad had to pay again..., was the affordable price. No fake news here, it was 56% less than the price I paid at another place closest to the city, on the left side as you unload from ferry and travel to the main street of the city (hora). To this family owned tavern 5 starts is a disservice and all the family should be proud of themselves for having such a great food establishment in the beautiful island of Zakynthos (Zante). The only negative thing for me was their smoking that both the hostess (a very cordial and sweet lady) and her husband were responsible for, which was thrown at me (unintentionally of course) due to the light wind direction that got my nostrils and upset and my lungs ready to scream but I kept it civil, because everything else was so perfect and I enjoyed it...
Read moreIf you ever go to Anafonitria please please stop at Galaxy Tavern and ask for Kostantina or Andrea or Nicos. They are the most kind people that I have ever met in my voyages. They will allways have a smile and a warm word for you.We stayed for 15 days in Anafonitria on August 2021 and even we had tourist things to do during the day we tried to find the time to go there. The food is healthy and made daily.Even if you want to have something out of the menu Kostantina will do whatever she can to make you have it.We and the kids felt like home and this is an important thing when you are in another country.Mama (thats how Kostantina calls the chef) cooks with love and devotion each and every day of the week.I read some of the reviews saying that the food was oily...Im a chef in daily life and let me say just two things : First. The traditional Greek cousine is based on olive oil and for sure it will have some oil. Second. The olive oil is healthy and that kind of olive oil that is used there you will never find in any metropolitan restaurant because they make it from their own olives with their own hands with no chemical treatments etc. I recomend this restaurant for all the travelers that...
Read moreI am hoping for the people who've left good reviews their food was made 'fresh'. I came here as part of a tour (provided by Abba Travel) and ordered the Zakynthian Chicken. We had an hour. So I'm pretty sure it was either microwaved or all pre-made and kept on those keep-warm-buffets (you know, like the ones you get your food from in an all you can eat Chinese buffet). The waiters were running around and every time you see them going in the kitchen they're just as quick to come out with a plate. Fortunately for my very sensitive stomach it didn't give me the 'runs' so I was contemplating between 2 and 3 stars. Despite of that and considering they have to serve about 100 people and have them be done eating in an hour I'm still not comfortable giving them 3 stars. We also had to ask twice to pay as the lady in charge of the bills apparently was too busy to get our money. At least the food didn't...
