Kanalos Tavern — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

Most wonderful place we have been to in our vacation in Greece! My best friend and i borrowed a scooter and totally lost our track on our way to the mountain top! Instead of going crazy, we simply went with it and enjoyed the sun set, which was next level b-e-a-utiful. Normal people might have gone home afterwards but for some reason we knew we had to drive up the mountain on the super bumpy off road track (it turned out that there is a normal road too...). Then, all of a sudden, the Kanalos Taverna was in front of us and the owner was already greeting us with a happy face from afar, as if he knew what we had just gone through! The only other group of people was a young and lovely family from France. We sat at a table on the edge of the terrace, giving us the stunning view towards the mountains while also being able to enjoy all the beautiful flowers in the garden (we can only imagine how beautiful a sunset might be at this place). As the owner took our orders, we both got so super happy and we felt that this will be an experience that just always gives us a happy feeling in our hearts when it pops up in our minds. Also, they had the cutest little dog, a perfect way to spend your time when you are in between appetizer and dinner.

As we were in the middle of our meal, the lady told us that the lamb chops we ordered were in fact from their own local little farm up there on the mountain and I can tell you, they really meant to make us enjoy them! We had ordered more food and also a lot of other little snacks but I dont want to give too much of a bias ;)

I recently discovered a wonderful spot on Zakynthos Island, perched on a green hill with direct views of the sea. This location offers everything you could wish for a perfect dining experience: delicious food, great prices, and genuine hospitality.

First and foremost, the food was exceptional. We enjoyed a variety of dishes, each one bursting with flavor and prepared with fresh, local ingredients. The portions were generous, and every bite was a delight.

The prices were surprisingly reasonable, especially considering the quality and quantity of the food. It’s rare to find such a perfect balance of affordability and taste.

The setting itself is picturesque, with lush greenery all around and free sunbeds where you can relax and soak in the stunning sea view. It's the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a meal while taking in the beautiful surroundings.

What truly made the experience unforgettable were the people. The staff were incredibly hospitable and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Their warmth and friendliness added a special touch to our visit.

Overall, this place is a true hidden gem on Zakynthos Island. If you’re looking for a place with great food, stunning views, and outstanding service, I highly recommend visiting this spot. It’s a little slice of paradise that you won’t...

Amazing and unassuming taverna perched on the top of the kalamaki to Zante town road (well, road from kanalos to Zante - somewhat dusty track from kalamaki to kanalos!).

Amazing views, and worth the circa 5km plus trek from kalamaki to see it!

Hosts are very charming and attentive. Drinks were cold and extremely welcome for an overweight walker......and after cooling down I ordered the beef liver...served with fabulous local tomato and cucumber.... A sensible portion of fried potatoes.... But the liver itself was huge and so tasty!

Great local produce to buy as well, cherries in alcohol (I think) and olive oil and honey which I bought!!

Super break on the 12.7km walk.....in a very hot June...
