Kinnik — Restaurant in Sololá

This spot is such a hidden treasure, located just across the street from Casa Palopó. The restaurant is modern yet beautifully designed with great attention to detail.

I ordered the 1lb steak and the pesca del día (fish of the day), and both were absolutely outstanding—flavorful, perfectly prepared, and beyond my expectations. Truly couldn’t have asked for more!

The service was excellent as well. Jonathan and Henry were attentive, professional, and friendly throughout the meal. Jonathan mentioned that the restaurant has only been open for about a year and a half, which surprised me—it deserves to be much better known. At the same time, I’m glad to have discovered this little secret; it feels like my own hidden ajit (spot) that I almost don’t want to share!

After lunch, I headed down to the shore where there was live music with a gorgeous lake view. The relaxed, chill atmosphere made the whole experience even more memorable.

Wow. This restaurant is incredible. We were staying in Santa Catarina and walked the 15 minutes to get here. There is a lift to get down to the restaurant from the main road else it is about 5-10 minute walk down steps. We tried the tacos and flank steak and both were delicious. The chips were also so yummy with chirmol and pepper sauce. That chirmol sauce wow, I don’t know what’s in it but it’s incredible. I’d consider coming back to Guatemala just for those chips and sauce alone…. Review from my friend who had the tacos was “I’ve never had food that tasted that good” We came once the sun had set, but I wish it wasn’t cloudy so we could be in the restaurant for sunset because the views would be fab. This place may be a little out of the way but definitely worth the trip. If you need a tuk tuk it takes around 25 minutes for it to arrive to the restaurant who are able to book it for you. There weren’t any tuk tuks...

El lugar es hermoso, la vista, el ambiente, la decoración. El trato del personal es increíble. Acostumbrado al sabor del restaurante de casa palopó, tenía pendiente probar Kinnik. El resultado fue un sabor en boca agridulce. Precios de vinos y agua con gas adecuado. Me gusta un buen vino y que haya una opción como Matsu el viejo, a un precio adecuado, se agradece. Pedimos dos entradas que por el precio nos parecieron porciones bastante grandes, pero decepciona mucho el sazón o el sabor (me imagino que se debe a que su segmento es el paladar extranjero). La ensalada no tenía el sabor que yo esperaría para un aderezo de cilantro y los tacos gobernador de camarón si tenían buen sabor, pero los camarones eran minúsculos. Mi esposa pidió una hamburguesa la cual si estaba espectacular, con las mismas papas que nos acotumbra casa palopo. Pero la decepción fue la carne... pedí un puyaso en termino medio y la verdad nunca me había comido un puyaso sin sabor en toda mi vida. Considero que ni siquiera era puyaso culotte. Se notaba la inexperiencia en este corte de carne, la parte de afuera con ese sabor a carne quemada y un blue point que no era adecuado para lo quemado del corte por fuera. Pedi camote en gajos qué nunca decepciona, y vegetales asados qué no tenían amor... normalmente yo todo esto lo cocino en casa con amor y dedicación para mis amigos, pero esto no tenía ni una ni otra. Al final, un lugar adecuado para unas copas, un buen vino y servicio espectacular como siempre. Pero decepcionado por la relación precio calidad. Creo que tienen un margen de mejora increíble. No quería escribir esto por que es un lugar al que disfruto mucho ir, pero espero que sea una crítica constructiva y...
