This was recommended by our driver and it was my mistake for taking his advice. We were told they had good ceviche and seafood. We ordered the Mexican Ceviche which wasn’t ceviche at all. It was a shrimp cocktail. It was sweet and that wasn’t what we were looking for. I had been craving lobster and ordered the Eldon’s special. The description stated it was shrimp, lobster and king crab with garlic butter and parsley. It came with a baked potato and steam vegetables. The waitress asked me if I wanted my meal peeled and cracked. I said yes.
Here is where the owner’s son comes in. He asks where we are from. Now I don’t mind making small talk but this young man wanted to discuss politics which I found incredibly unprofessional. It’s one think to ask me where I’m from and give me some History about your family’s business and what dishes you recommend but that wasn’t the case. I told him what I had ordered and he asked if I chose the option to have the meal de-shelled and peeled for $5.00 extra. I told him I did but the waitress never informed me that it was an additional charge. When our meal came he STILL wanted to discuss politics. I had pretend to be busy with my daughter because he wouldn’t take a hint.
Unfortunately the meal was as described. It had zero seasoning and flavor. Just a bunch of butter. It lacked salt and flavor. The lobster was also overcooked. Worst of all I couldn’t even finish my meal because flies and ghosts immediately stormed my plate. It was so gross that my daughter had to help me shu them away so I could try to eat.
$81.00 was the worst money I have spent on a meal. I don’t mind spending money on an amazing lobster dish but I’ve had better tasting lobster and king crab for cheaper at a Las...
Read moreI took my family out to Gios for dinner on night one in Roatan based off our airbnb host recommendations. Atmosphere felt quite dirty which might explain why we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. Nonetheless we sat down and ordered the Eldons Special, conch fritters and seafood platter for 3. Everything was over seasoned, overcooked and a crazy amount of butter was used on everything. Makes you wonder what they were hiding in their food with the overuse of flavor. Low and behold the next morning everyone in my family ended up with severe food poisoning. It was so bad my wife had to be hospitalized here on the island due to the extreme nature of the food poisoning. We travel alot (7 times per year) and all around the world, this is the first experience of extreme food poisoning I have ever seen. Based on other reviews it appears others have noticed similar situations with the food. I would highly recommend going elsewhere on the island especially if you don't want to end up sick on your holiday. There are many other amazing places to go to where food and service are much...
Read moreVisited Gio's with my wife during our trip to Honduras. Seriously the best, freshest seafood, I've ever had. Definitely on the list when we go back.
Update 5 stars to 2 stars
For years we’ve been coming to Gio’s as a staple when we visit Roatan. It’s been great. Unfortunately it no longer is. Prices have gone up, portion sizes have gone down and for a restaurant that brags about how fresh everything is, it wasn’t.
We visited on New Year’s Eve 2024 with a group of 11 people. Expected our usually great experience, unfortunately that wasn’t the case this time. Service was poor, food wasn’t fresh. In fact several plates were cold when they brought out, we had to send them back to reheat. Really disappointing especially when most restaurants on the island are bringing their “A” game on account of NYE.
While Gio’s used to be a let’s go, every time, it won’t be on our list the next time we visit.
They also don’t offer a senior discount, if you’re...
