We were very excited to come here because of Mark Wiens YouTube video review. Came in at around 2pm on Sunday. The place was somewhat filled but we were seated inside quickly. We ordered white and red wines - according to the waiter’s suggestions - and the famous goulash soup, duck leg with liver and the stuffed cabbage dish. Goulash shop was amazing but the Duck was very dry which was a huge disappointment. Probably it was left in the oven too long. Stuffed cabbage was good. When we told them that we’re paying with card, the bill came with 15% tip included in the total which was no problem. We paid and left the restaurant but later found that they overcharged us! I only had one glass each of Etiyeki white wine and Riesling wine, but they charged two each. They also charged two glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon for my husband although he only had one. It is disgraceful of them to trying to take advantage of the tourists, and this is the kind of characteristics that can define the overall impression of your country, especially because this restaurant is not some street vendor but an established, very well known and otherwise respectful business that people wouldn’t expect this kind of cheating. They probably thought we wouldn’t figure it out because we don’t speak Hungarian, but they’re mistaken. If you go there, make sure to check your bill before you pay. Deeply disappointed.

Náncsi Néni is a charming gem nestled in a converted 17th-century farmhouse, offering a truly memorable dining experience. From the moment you step inside, the vintage wood furnishings and warm ambiance make you feel right at home. The cozy, homely atmosphere is perfect for savoring the best of Hungarian cuisine. The goulash here is exceptional—arguably one of the best I've had in Budapest. Each dish reflects care and authenticity, leaving no doubt about the quality of the ingredients and preparation. The service is equally impressive, with attentive and friendly staff who make your experience seamless and enjoyable. Although the restaurant is located a good distance from the city center, it is absolutely worth the drive or commute. The tranquil garden adds to its allure, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely meal, especially on a sunny day. Be sure to plan ahead—this restaurant is very popular, and reservations well in advance are highly recommended. Whether you're a local or a visitor, Náncsi Néni is a must-visit destination for those seeking top-notch Hungarian fare in a welcoming and rustic setting.

Otthon lemértem, színültig kellett volna lennie a tányérnak. Fénykép csatolva a blokkról.

Maybe 3 stars would be more accurate, but two signals my disappointment better.

I've been coming here for over 20 years and I'm heartbroken to note that now the place truly lost it's touch. The setting and the atmosphere is still one of a kind. The service is never kind but accepatble. But the kitchen that used to be fantastic is now a shadow of itself.

Coming here with vegetarian friends, I was ashamed at what they were offered and especially what was served. I regret not taking a picture of the plates. The Aro fried cheese arrived ungarnished with scoops of plain rice - you get better at a roadside fry-up. The price for this was ridiculous. Even our meat dishes were underwhelming, though not us much as the veg. Their famous pea soup was so sugary, we could barely finish it.

The bathrooms were out of supplies (this happened last time I was here) and are badly in need of the renovation.

While we were lunching, I saw the owners of downtown Kiosk arrive. I wish I had their opinion on this place now. And even more, I wished they were in the kitchen instead of sitting next to us. :(

I hope someone will bring this place back to it's old-time glory. It would deserve it. Until then, avoid. There are now better places...

Hi,

We just left your restaurant about 1 hour ago with a final charge 66125. There are two main issues that you need to fix if you want to be a correct business man, a correct person and avoid trouble. We had only 2 glasses of Egri bikaver and not 4 as charged on the bill wrongly by your waitress. Initially I said ok , it could be an accidental mistake but now I do bother because of two reasons. The first is that I understood that when I told that to the waitress on my way out he did not bother nor surprised and the second is 2. 2) when I checked the bill I understood that the one that got paid already charged 15% for service without asking first. It’s his duty to do and get permission first as somebody might think that service does not deserve the 15%. Please correct take responsibility and do what’s proper for a restaurant as yours. Other than that, the food was excellent but after what happened I’m not planning to return. In contrast I’m planning to do something about it unless you apologize for this and correct the bill properly. This is not about money. This is about principles!

Best regards,

Dr...
