This restaurant discriminates. We strolled downtown through this fishing community, well before a dinner rush, spotted this quaint little eatery, saw half the tables full, and stepped in to see the menu. When we politely asked if we needed to be seated or could choose our own table, and they heard our American accents, the young ladies looked at each other, smiled, and said (in very clear English - there was no miscommunication) that they had a quota of how many people they could serve in the restaurant, due to their limited staff. I was incredulous when they suggested we would be better off ordering a pizza from a restaurant "up the hill." We were tired and hungry from hiking and just ordered their house salad and pizza to go, as seafood dishes are most likely not going to be packed well and half the fun is the ambiance. When we returned for our food, every table in the restaurant was filled, some with infants and young children. When we got back to our hotel room (never a place you want to "dine" on vacation), we saw they had not included utensils, so I needed to walk back to the restaurant for them and return them when we were through. This was the only time I felt this dual treatment while we were in Iceland, but it was disappointing. We were showered, nicely dressed, teeth flossed, money in hand, but our accents made it impossible for us to be seated and served. They should just post a sign that says, "We do not like Americans, go somewhere else" and it would have saved us the time. What cracked me up was that the cliche signs on the walls seemed to reflect our...
Read moretotally liked this place. do not expect 5 stars Michelin style but in such a little town this mini restaurant is wonderful. cosy atmosphere delicious fish soup. i specifically ordered fish soup after i read a bad review about it where smb was complaining the fish smell and taste was too strong. well i am sure it is a matter if tastes. yes the soup tastes like too much fish because it is fish soup! if you expect to smell like roses or taste like honey u mistook the place. i also read a review where some Americans were complaining about being discriminated. i am Romanian so i specifically mentioned this while talking to the lady waitress. just to check their behaviour. take into account that eastern europeans are mostly treated like second hand citizens almost everywhere in the world. well as a highly discriminated person i can tell that the lady waitress was very natural and normal.she was huge polite and respectful and did not feel any xenophobic reaction.besides, the Americans built icelandic roads when they occupied the iceland (Ausbru base) and Icelanders are highly grateful to the Americans for their investments here. why would smb hate them? so letting aside all the spoiled attitude remember u r in iceland u r in a rustic town remote and quiet. i for one loved their food. if ill ever return here ill definitely eat to them....
Read moreCame here as an evening dinner spot for a road trip from Akureyri.
Sadly the soup and ice cream was unavailable (23/02/25, 6pm) but instead I had the fish with cream cheese, which was crisp, fresh and full of flavour, and it came with perfectly cooked rice. We shared truffle fries too which were delicious.
Non-Alcoholic beer is available for those who are driving but still want that taste.
The workers looked young but were extremelly respectful and polite, and were quick with making our orders.
There was no music when we there, it was silent but the ambience felt so peaceful and relaxing especially after I had done 5 or 6 hours of driving by that point it.
Other than the couple of items not on the menu, everything...
