While our server was very kind and polite, but she was forgetful and the out of 4 servers, only 1 was constantly on the move (good), 2 standing (bad), and 1 roaming around trying to remember what she needs to do (she's trying!). Alas, 1 star reduced for lack of attentiveness. Another star reduced for price not matching the quality of the food served because we had another experience to compared to at Guesthouse Stong.
Service: We ordered appetizer, but the server got distracted with a question I had about the main course I wanted to order and forgot to put it in. We asked for water as beverage, she forgot to place a bottle when she submitted the order. We were about two third into our main course, then she remembers about asking us how our food was. The server was apologetic and offered us free coffee on the house - we did accept it. (increase back to 4 stars since Google doesn't give 1/2 star)
Food: Food was underwhelming. We ordered a pan fried artic char ($40 CAD) and slow cooked lamb shank ($50 CAD). Artic char's skin was not crispy. Salad on the side lacked dressing (kale without dressing....) The artic char didn't have a lot of flavour, solely relying on salt and lemon juice Lamb shank was shredding but wasn't melt in your mouth texture Gravy was meh Rhubarb jam was good but give you very small portion, so you'd have to ask for more.
Atmosphere: The overall atmosphere and decor is nicer here than at Guesthouse Stong. And as another reviewer pointed out, the smell outside of the restaurant is atrocious but it is a farm house 🏠 so remember that and don't be taken aback.
Overall, because we did dine at Guesthouse Stong the night before, in comparison while Vogafjos was not bad, it did not meet the expectation we had in terms of service and food for the price it...
Read moreI really enjoyed Vogafjós, although there were a few things I might do differently if I visited again. First, the service was very good, but somewhat slow. The dining room was quite empty by the time we finished our starter, but it took awhile for our entrees to come out. We had seen from another reviewer the recommendation to get the Vogafjós Special and the Slow Cooked Lamb Shank, so we tried those. The Special was very good although I thought the geysir bread with the fresh butter, jams, and cheeses was fantastic and I would have gotten just those if I could. Also, the lamb shank was indeed incredibly tender, but I would try something else next time. It was very good, but maybe just a touch overhyped, especially since there are cheaper things on the menu. We went and spent time with the cows after our meal, which I thought would be really fun, but it was actually a little sad to see the hard metal grates they stood or lay on, and the little calves separated from their mothers, bleating and drinking milk from a machine. It actually made me want to buy fewer dairy products when I got home. The cows seemed to be treated fine; I just realized what a difficult life a dairy cow must lead, being impregnated so it could keep producing milk and then being separated from her babies. Anyway. I don't mean to get into those issues, and the restaurant was good, but it was also very thought provoking about the dairy industry. I appreciated that even more...
Read moreArrived at 8:54pm and was greeted by an unfriendly host. She claimed it was too late because the kitchen was closing and didn’t think they had a table. I asked if she could check; she remained seated and pointed and said “go ask her”. Still confused as to why we were being discouraged and turned away as the website said they close at 10pm and kitchen closes at 9pm. Plenty of patrons were still eating and there were plenty of tables. The waitress agreed to seat us and said they could give us soup. Still confused as to why a salad, dessert or something wasn’t suggested as a “quick” option. It pretty much went down from there as they left us with no water or silverware. One server was nice and said dessert was no problem yet after talking to the other waitress neglected to come back to our table or provide a menu. It’s as if he was told not to help us. We were in and out before most of the people were even done eating…far from the last guest of the night. So we definitely weren’t keeping them or holding them up from closing. We felt discriminated and unwelcome by the staff. I don’t know if that was because of our late arrival, casual dress, or just being a tourist. It definitely wasn’t the experience we expected nor how the reviews read. Somehow we spent $33 on a bowl of soup and bread. Don’t waste your time. Head into town and go to @Lokal Bistro. Way better service, and...
