Nauthóll — Restaurant in Reykjavik

I have always been happy and satisfied going to this place until today. Went there to celebrate the birthday of my eldest with my two other kids. We took the order as usual and then I remembered I bought icelandic coupons which has discounts to some restaurants over Iceland. True enough I found a 20% discount for Nautahóll. I was not sure so I asked the crew for confirmation. Was happy that the discount coupon is valid although we did not expect it, thus we tried. To my surprise, that the food ordered was changed in quantity and quality. Worse was I saw the lady crew who was on her way to serve the food and asked to return it back. I asked the man who attended us if the discount coupon has an effect to the order and he said no. Was waiting for the order, fried cod fish and beef tenderloin while the other orders for the kids were already on the table.

It took sometime before my food and the celebrant’s food were served. And I was dismayed and disappointed because the servings were modified that ended up affecting the quality. The taste was not the same as well. My daughter, the bday celebrant was already hungry that she just ate her food right away. I couldnt just take in that I had to complain... I know the taste is not the same and definitely not of the quality and standard of I am used to this restaurant. I am grateful somehow that one crew Ásgeir was accommodating enough to at least help me ease my discontent. I was offered to change my food. I originally ordered the fried cod but I couldnt just eat it so I switched to soup instead. The soup was good but the celebration was somehow ruined because all of us were not able to eat at the same time. W e were all hungry and chose to go to the place. We drove all the way from Keflavík and ended up with the ordeal.

Somehow, we are grateful but we hope that it should not compromise or amend any food menu servings when one uses a coupon upon purchase. Or at least the restaurant will be clear about it when there are limitations. Its not that we are not willing to pay the regular cost to enjoy the regular meal especially that Its for my daughter’s bday celebration. It just needs to be black and...

The meals were superb- our Icelandic friends took us last night to the restaurant- they had a deal on where it was pay for 1 and 2nd person was free. We also chose a 3 course menu where you had 2 choices of starters and 2 choices for main being a lamb dish or a cod fish meal. Starters was a 3 ordeauves or fish soup. I had the soup and it was to die for and it was really unusual how it was served up- the waiter first put seafood into your bowl and then came back with a jug of chowder and poured it over your seafood. My lamb was beautiful as well - it was baked and had like a smokey sauce between the chops then skewered together with a bearnaise sauce over the top served with broccoli, mushrooms and crispy chips- the only thing I could say bad was that there was too much lamb 4 chops to be exact and everyone left the 4th and most of the chips due to the size of the meal. The comment to make was that it was such a waste of beautiful food. The dessert was a panna cotta and it had bursts of pineapple, passionfruit and coconut which was quite refreshing. Nothing wrong with the food but I am speechless about the service. I found a long hair in my steak, it was obviously buried underneath the glaze. I'm not very squeamish so it didn't affect my appetite. They took it away, and gave me new steak which was great. However the waiter came and said there was no brunette in the kitchen, however I have brown long hair. I know for a fact that it was not my hair cause this one was buried in the glaze and I had my hair in a bun. Obviously he was suggesting that it was my hair. You know, I had 2 for 1 voucher, we were only going to have that one course and I was not fishing for a discount!! I just wanted to enjoy dinner with my son that I hadn't seen for 8 months.
