If you are traveling in Iceland and the Westfjords you must visit Vagninn in Flateyri. My story... We were cycling from Reykjavik to Ísafjörður to participate in the Arna Westfjords Way Challenge cycling race. It was getting close to midnight and our plan was to camp for the night. As we pulled into Flateyri it was starting to rain and the winds were picking up. We noticed that Vagninn was still open. We pulled up to the front door on our bikes and noticed live music and dancing. The manager, Erla, greeted us at the door. We were soaking wet and dirty. Within minutes we were seated at a table with beer and homemade ceviche followed by cheesecake. When Erla found out that we were planning on camping in the rain and heavy winds, she rented us rooms at the guesthouse for two nights. If you are visiting the Westfjords, Vaginn is a must for dinner and drinks. Thank you Erla, Ana, and everyone else who made us feel so at home and shared a little glimpse of Flateyri with us. We...
Read moreVery good food and the prices seem normal. But the portions you get are by far the smallest we ever had in 3 years in Iceland, half of what you usually get here (and the portions are never really big here). We ordered 4 tapas/starters and one plate with salad/vegetable and one soup and paid over 6000 ISK only for the food. Normally this is a enough, sometimes too much for the two of us. Here it did not serve one of us, some tapas you could put on one spoon, others in two. We also saw the main dishes on other tables, which we would have called "starters". We went home starving and ate our bread, crackers and nuts.
So far we would give three stars. But as I mentioned the much to small portions at the end to the waiter, the reaction was friendly&professional but quite disappointing “Oh, sorry to hear that sir!” and nothing else. That is similar to “We don’t care…”, so therefore...
Read moreOne of the best restaurants in Iceland in one of the most beautiful villages of the country. The basque chefs in Vagnin took us to a delicious trip to Spain, we loved every single dish. The service was excellent. Thank you guys for the great work you are all doing. There is only a problem, there is five and a half hours drive from our home to Vagnin :( Don't miss it even if you have to take a detour,...
