When we went - On a weekday evening What we had - Masala dosa, idli, vada, sambhar, and chutney Things we liked - The combination of dosa and aloo palya in the masala dosa was tasty The place had a decent ambiance. The lighting in the place included lights resembling hanging oil lamps of the bygone era, which was nostalgic. The restaurant wasn't crowded at the hour we went and since the place is on a relatively quieter street, the overall experience was one of being laid back. The pricing is reasonable and the quantity is commensurate with the price.
Things that can be improved Food quality and presentation - Masala dosa was unevenly roasted. For the most part, it was burnt. Vada was burnt on the outside and slightly undercooked on the inside. Chutney had turned a little sour. So overall we had to struggle to find some uniform flavor in the food. Slow and incompetent service - After placing the order, we had to wait close to 30 minutes to get our takeout. Meanwhile, the cooking staff, after making the dosa ready, realized they didn't have the vada handy! It took close to 15 minutes to get a new batch of vada ready and by then dosa had turned cold. Seating - This place had benches, instead of tables and chairs to sit and eat. Though we didn't dine here, on observation, it seemed people looked uncomfortable sitting on the bench and holding plats in hand or leaning on their side to eat food like idli and sambhar, and trying not to spill.
Overall experience was very average. The food had nothing good to note. So though the price was reasonable, I don't have a compelling reason to go back...
Read moreThis review is based on my takeaway from the past couple of days for my ailing wife in hospital nearby. Bright and airy atmosphere welcomes you into the darshini type of hotel. Parking is available on kerbside for 2 and 4W. And easily accessible by wheelchair too. I have taken Idly, Vade, Maddur Vade, Pulao and Khali Dose on multiple occasions and it has been a great experience. Service is quick with clean and hygienic interior. The food tastes good with chutney being a standout. Vade and Maddur Vade were crisp on the outside with soft core. The Sambhar had right amount of spiciness and tasted good. Pulao was good with the mint dominating the proceedings and subdued by the raitha. Khali Dose was excellent with soft and crispy sections. It was served with sagu and chutney which went well. The Shavige Bath is on my agenda next with the local crowd enjoying it more than others. I will return for that soon. Definitely this is going to be recommended for a quick and tasty bite if you are in Girinagar and it's...
