It is one of the best authentic south Indian restaurants in quite a huge radius around Ankleshwar and Bharuch. I myself am from Ankleshwar and yet if we want to have south indian then our first preference always is South Samarth in spite of the 25km travel.
The food is great. They give chutneys on the table and you can have all you want without having to keep asking for those extra small bowls of chutney and sambar that you get at other places.
Some of the dishes are not as authentic as you expect them to be eg. Neer dosa which needs to have a paper thin thickness and what you get in the name of dosa is more like velappam.
But otherwise it definitely is worth a visit and get great south Indian food.
Also the filter coffee is nice.
Update 9th March 2022:
The restaurant has been shifted within tr he same building. It used to be on an elevated ground floor but now, is on first floor. The food and service have definitely gotten better. We went very close to closing time and yet no one hurried us unnecessarily. Just one complain though, the masala idli that we ordered was very good in taste but far too oily as can be seen in the photo attached by me. I hope that it was just a hurriedly prepared dish that ended up having excessive quantity of oil.
Also they have made some changes to the menu and so my favourite kadala curry is no longer available. Also, neer dosa and Appam are not available standalone they are only served as a part of the mini meals with Kurma. Which is a slight turn off for me.
Update 21.11.22
Got my neer dosa and kadala curry as ala carte options. Neer dosa was good. So was the kadala curry although a little bit too oily for my taste.
The aplam(Kerala papad) we got was also dripping oil as you will see in the photo.
They have renovated the whole place with great interiors and much better sitting. They have also started a banquet hall just above the restaurant. And a very welcome change is that of installing an elevator. Huge plus for families with aged members.
All in all a very nice changed set up with my request...
Read moreI had a very bad experience as I went to South Samrat to have a good South Indian lunch on 5/7/22 by noon. I wanted to have Rice, Curry and Pappad and the waiter suggested to order South Indian Thali which cost ₹210 it include 3 Poori, 1Vada, I bowl of rice, Pappad and curries. While eating I wanted extra bowl of rice and asked the waiter to bring, he told me it will be charged and then told it is Ok. Then the receptionist incharge came and told waiter not to give extra rice, asked him to show the menu to convey that I need to pay ₹150 for extra rice which comes in big bowl. I was amazed and told I need just need little rice and will pay for small portion. But they told Thali is limited in quantity and they can't give extra rice in small quantity. The receptionist incharge was behaving rude manner and I felt so insulted. I just got away from there and told this is not manner to behave to a customer when ask for small bowl of rice and ready to pay for it. I recommend them to change the name 'South Samrat' to 'Samrat'. Also made call to Manager and his response was bitter than this. If you are doing business and charging so much, atleast show some...
